Cheaply made
I bought it as a replacement for a Gerber tool I carried for years and unfortunately lost while in Afghanistan. On first appearance it is cheaply made and poorly designed. The folding edge is a toothed gear looking thing that serves no useful purpose except to eventually bend with continued use.The unit itself is not put together well and will fall opening not held together. Their are metal "wings" designed ,I guess, to keep the pliers/firefighters from mudslinging. When I received it one was already bent. The carrier is a curiously constructed soft leather and the snap is plastic. All in all not a good buy.

By the time I finally got it, which was ...
By the time I finally got it, which was last day of the expected delivery, package was half smashed, no paperwork with it, the sheave is quite a bit too large for the tool and has a lot of trouble staying vertical on my belt, I expected the tool to be stronger and not have so many flaws, the tool covers fall off, the tools seem very fragile, the wire cutter are already full after cutting maybe five 18 gauge wires. Definitely not worth the cost!

Incredibly well built but heavy
Pros: INCREDIBLY well built. Best pliers you will ever find on a multi-tool. All attachments are top notch.Con: Quite heavy. I didn't pay attention to the weight when ordering it. This is twice as heavy as my previous multi-tool.

Years of comparison and hard use have proven this tool.
As a jack of all trades, my SOG followed me from years of use in the steel engine room of a ship to years of use on our ranch. After literally years and years of daily use I managed to mistreat and break the file, and eventually the tip of the pliers and hinge were damaged after using them as a crowbar too many times for too many years. The daily misuse and abuse they survived for years is almost unbelievable. I then tried several other brands I had used prior as well as new mufti tools I received as gifts over the years, specifically "brand G" and "brand L". To me they just weren't the same, they felt like toys and either broke or hurt my hand without coming close to the geared gripping power the SOG jaws had. The compound gripping power will spoil you forever, once you get used to the PowerLock you cant ever go back. I cursed the others and finally after almost a year I still bought a new PowerLock, dropped it right into my worn leather sheath and carried on like nothing ever happened, able to grip, crimp, bend, and crush anything with the compound jaws back on my hip probably for another decade.

Great multifunction tool
I bought this as a replacement to the same model that I seem to have misplaced, sadly. SOG makes great products and I found myself using this tool frequently for several years before misplacing it.I looked on the SOG website for a replacement, but was not impressed with the $100+ price listed. So, I spun over to Amazon and found it for just over half the price, but still sold through SOG. Didn't take much thinking to go ahead and buy it. And actually the replacement seems a little better than the original. The flip cover for the tools is a little more snug and secure than the one I had previously. I love this tool and all the various items it contains.

SOG Powerlock w/ V-cutter and leather case
I had my eye on a one of these for quite a while so when I saw it at my local Lowes store, I was pleasantly surprised. It was priced at $58, which I believe is a great price for a SOG multi-tool. I tried carrying this on my belt for a couple of weeks and tried using the tools as often as possible. The Good:Price: I have seen this model listed from $58.99 and up. I thought this was a competitive price. However, you will pay much more from the SOG website.Durability: This is a strong, durable tool.Pliers: They are very good, but because of the SOG patented gearing system, they do not open as wide as one would like.Wire cutters: They are excellent. I tried cutting through pennies and quarters, which were extremely easy to cut. I've also used the cutters when working on my car. These cutters will make an easy job of anything.Cutting: Knife, saw and V-Cutters are extremely sharp out of the box.The Bad:The locking mechanism - all of the tools "lock" by a spring lever on the back of the handle. However, when these tools are open, there is a lot of play. This is something that would never happen with a Leatherman tool. The Knife: The blade is half fine cut and half serrated. Even though it is very sharp, it is only ground on one side so cutting must be done left-handed. I had a terrible time of this when I tried to slice some wood. Making feather sticks with the right hand would be impossible. I field-tested the tool by wearing it on a rugged hike. I found it to be uncomfortable to wear and constantly had to worry about losing the tool because the snap on the leather holster kept coming loose.I have small hands and this tool is one of the "full-size" multi-tools. However, I found this tool to be very uncomfortable for projects that might require a strong grip. It is even more uncomfortable when the safety covers are removed. The UglyThe leather case is possibly one of the worst I've seen, and might be a reasonable excuse for avoiding this tool. The tool drops into the case loosely and shakes around. Although the tool will not slide out, there is a lot of room up top. The snap pops open very easily. I was jogging up a trail when the tool popped out of the case because it sits too loosely in the case and the button snap is too loose.Phillip screwdriver tool: The Phillips screwdriver is made of a very brittle metal. I was disassembling a speaker box when the screwdriver tool snapped off. I contacted SOG by email and explained what happened. A rep responded quickly with an apology and said that he his tool had snapped by bending it with his fingers. He promised to send me a new screwdriver and said the replacement would be much stronger. I received the replacement part within two days, but was disappointed to find that it was the same brittle metal. In conclusion, though the price may seem good, I feel there are enough negatives about the SOG Powerlock multitool to recommend buyers to think twice and shop around for other comparable makes at a similar price range.
