Love this thing!
This is a great waffle maker. I purchased one originally for myself and a family member of ours that we made waffles for several times also liked it so much , that I also purchased a second one for them to have at their home. We use it several times a week and it always makes delicious, fluffy waffles that never stick and never burn. It is super easy to use and self explanatory with not a whole lot to figure out. Would be easy for older kids/children to learn how to use as well to prepare themselves a snack or breakfast ... as long as they are aware of the danger for burns as it does get hot when it heats up. It is very easy to clean, we just dampen a paper towel and place it inside the waffle maker and close the top while it is still hot. It is great quality and stores very easily by turning on its side and placing in cabinet. We use extra virgin olive oil instead of regular PAM spray and the waffle maker still looks brand new even six months later. Our families love this thing and we always want to make different types of waffles in it. There are so many different types of waffles you can make in this thing! We have tried different flavored extracts, fruits, chocolate chips and pizza waffles. So delicious. We love this thing! Buy one, you will love it too! Here is an explanation of how I rate my reviews :5 Stars – I love it! It is absolutely fantastic and I can't think of anything negative to say about it. I would purchase it again and would recommend others to purchase it as well! Well worth the money paid and I am very happy with it.4 Stars – I like it! It is a great product, but there may be something I would change which makes it less than perfect (less than 5 stars). I would still purchase the item again or recommend it to others as well.3 Stars - It is just alright. I am on the fence about the product, could either take it or leave it. May have been disappointed based on what I expected and would most likely try to find something different next time.2 Stars – It is not so good. This is a product that I am not so happy about. Either the quality is lacking or it just is not as described and I would not purchase again or recommend.1 Star – I dislike it! I will most likely never use this product again and it is not worth the money paid for it. This is a product that I would definitely not recommend to others and I would certainly never purchase the product again. Most likely will throw away or return.

No Thermal Protection but Replacement A Solid Performer
Second update: The replacement arrived and this time it survived the conditioning process. I also disassembled the original and the heating unit and wiring look like new - no sign of burning or excessive heat - it just looks like an electrical component failed during the initial startup cycle. That also gave me an opportunity to get a better look at the way the unit was constructed and it's definitely well-constructed. The wiring layout was neat and tidy and the waffle grids are solidly constructed, lots of metal to back up the ceramic coating. After making the recommended throwaway waffle, I made one to eat and I was pleased by the result - the waffle was thick and almost as well done as I like them, so I increased the adjustment setting and the second waffle was just about perfect, fluffy on the inside with a crisp outer surface. So, what started as a one-star rating for a failed unit is now a five-star rating based on no-hassle support and a well-made unit that should keep me in waffles for a long time.Update: I sent an email to the Oster product support telling them what happened and asking what I could do to repair the now-dead waffle maker. Their response was an order confirmation for a replacement, at no cost. I just raised my rating to a mid-range value based solely on their no-hassle support and will reconsider again after I get a chance to actually use the product. What follows was my initial reaction:Got the waffle maker and tried to "condition" the grid. Brushed it with oil and plugged it in. Waited for the "ready" light to come on. After five minutes with no "ready" light, I went across the room to tidy up the unpacking mess. When I came back, the waffle maker was smoking and the power light was off.Since the instructions include advice to leave it plugged in even if there will be a delay between adding batches of batter, I assumed there was a thermal safety switch that would reset once it cooled down. Apparently not.I never did see a "ready" light. It should have reached working temperature in five minutes or so, but there was no indication. The only warning I got was when it started smoking and by then the power light was out.Obvious warning - do not leave the waffle maker plugged in when you are not continuously keeping an eye on it. I walked away for about five minutes and it burned out.One other nit-pick: there's an advertising sticker on the top lid, with a notice to remove the sticker before using the waffle maker. Give yourself plenty of time to remove that sticker and clean up the gummy mess it leaves on the otherwise attractive stainless steel lid. The sticker is made of paper and it's firmly glued instead of being made of vinyl or attached with easy peel-off glue.

Great when it works - guaranteed to fail.
One star for reliability. I have now had three of these waffle makers fail in the midst of cooking. The waffle maker does an exceptional job, while it is working. However, I haven't had any of these units last more than 6 months. All of them failed in the exact same manner which seems to indicate a flaw in the design. The waffle maker will start cooking overly hot and then completely shut off and no longer function (power light does not come on, even after cooling). While I think the DuraCeramic coating is some of the best (I've tried others) the poor quality and product longevity is definitely not worth the price. I now have to try getting Oster to replace an additional failed unit.

Life changer
I love this thing. What can't you cook in a waffle iron? If you find a way, it's going to be awesome. Apart from waffles being great, this thing makes it insanely easy. Clean up is way easier than I expected. I put some weird stuff in it. I find a brush with long bristles works best to get junk out (It usually just flakes right off, and if not, doesn't take much more effort). Once it's cool and the debris is out, I try to get grease out with a paper towel, using my fingers to get in there. You can crank out waffles really quickly. Every 90 seconds or so. If you leave them in longer they just get kind of crispy which is cool too.Savoury waffles are really fun to experiment with, and since this thing cleans up so easily, it's easy to try random ideas without worrying about the mess or stuff getting stuck in there. Nothing seems to stick to it.

Awesome Flip Waffle Maker! Can't eat more than one!
Not sure why other people rated this poorly and had cleaning issues. Maybe they didn't read the instructions is the only guess I have. Opened this Christmas Morning and decided we were having Waffles for breakfast. After reading the other reviews AND the instructions, I used a damp paper towel to wipe down the inside ceramic plates, then poured the mix into the bottom plate. This way securing anything that might be in it, like dust or dirt and I pitched that waffle in the garbage.Next, I took Coconut Oil (solid kind) and put some on a paper towel and lightly rubbed the ceramic plates, top and bottom. Just a tiny bit does the trick as Ceramic isn't suppose to stick. Then I filled each of the 4 (1/4 each) plates of the bottom and closed it, waited for a second, then did the flip on the handle to let it cook and watch for the green light. Once the green came on, flipped back up and opened. The first few were trial and error until I got the temperature set just right and the amount poured into each pocket of the plate, after that, it was a breeze and if you can eat more than one of these at a sitting... OMGOSH!! cause they are HUGE!!Clean up was a breeze, let it cool and use a damp cloth to wipe it down, there was nothing outside of the grill plate and if you are doing it right, there shouldn't be.The picture included... the bottom were the trial and error and the top was perfection. I pitched the bottom ones and kept on with making the top ones. I also bought that little tool on Amazon, it is a Silicone EZ Grab Tong for making Waffles. Works great too when you get the hang of it.

Makes great waffles
I purchased this for my husband. Every Sunday morning he makes waffles. He is not handy in the kitchen at all, but this machine never fails. Perfectly crisp outside, easily removed. He loves it.
