How do you cap the Branch tailpiece if it's no longer being used?

I'd secure anything I happen to have on hand over it with a hose clamp, just rubber of any type.

What 3.5" sink drain will connect to this? The one I purchased from Lowe's has different thread pitch

Yes, it would most likely replace the down pipe to the "P" trap - cut to same length.

Is the barb for a 7/8" ID hose?

3/4", but most modern dishwashers have a funnel-like rubber part that will attach safely to a wide range of pipe sizes.

Thank you. This is what we needed. We first bought a metal one from Lowes. BUT!!! We did not think that we could not screw it, because the thread did not hold!!! And this product is amazing!!! Installed without difficulty. Everything is holding up great. Connected washing machine. Doesn't leak water anywhere. I recommend. Good price!!!

Worked just like I wanted it to

It was quick and easy to install. Less connections the better in my opinion. It didn’t come with washers as others stated, but I had some on hand. It was nice being able to connect directly to the sink drain without using an extension piece three connections instead of two. I originally installed one from Home Depot, but they only had the ones with an extension, which I didn’t like. After looking for a better connection I found this one and it was perfect! I recommend it and it even says made in USA. I can’t complain about that.
