what a great experience
Wow! I just cooked up some chicken the way I've dreamed of making it: small bite size pieces fried/steamed/ and crustied in a mix of oils: I used coconut, sesame and olive; and then a little bit of honey; and the juice of one lime.... This mixture never would fly in my electric fry pan - because of the many different heat levels I use.I put the chicken in the oils and cook until it turns white and I put the lid on the pan so it steams through. Then I add the honey and lime and throw in the lime skins for extra flavor, but then I turn up the heat really high to brown it; and then, here's the trick: I turn the heat off so it doesn't burn. With the way induction heating goes, its really instant. Press the button and the heat goes up and down that quickly and it doesn't stay on the burner, just in the pan the food its being cooked in.No more chopping and preparing while the meal is cooking--this is a quick way of cooking and everything needs to be ready to go, go, go!I thought the cooktop would be intimidating. But I just turn it on, go to power and click the plus and minus thing. I haven't had a need to use the timer yet. I noticed when I click -- actually its just a very light touch -- like on a smart phone -- I noticed the temperature scrolled through the various settings from warm to stir fry.It cooks quick or slow, depending on what number you put it on. This morning I fried eggs. I like the centers firm and no wiggly white stuff. I put them on a high heat to get them going, and a lower heat to cook it the way I like... and they were perfect. This is the best cooking investment I have made. I'm going to get a ''magnetic'' saucepan and possibly retired the microwave, if I find a sauce pan with a pour spout. With all the fuss going on today about microwave food, I think its about time.

Disappointed
At first I was so pleased with this unit, decent size, nice looking, not as loud and functioned properly for about eight month. Then, the control over the heating levels is no longer there, it either boils or nothing no mater what heating level you select. I thought Fagor Brand would do better than that, very disappointed.

Kind of disappointing compared to the older model
I own this cooktop and it's older sibling. I must say I prefer the older model. I use them as my main cooking unit and have for several years while I wait for the kitchen remodel I so richly deserve. Induction is wonderful and cooking on it is a dream. However, this unit seems to heat things up and then cycles off for too long and the cooking cools down. It's very irritating. The old one did not do that. I sometimes make candy and things that require a steady, consistent heat and this cooktop is just not up to the job. It works fine for short cooking tasks like eggs or a cutlet. It also has more settings (7 instead of 6) and a lot more useless buttons. I do not think they've improved it at all.

Disappointing, but useful for very small cooking tasks.
Disappointing. Unit has very short time limits on the more useful higher setting, and turns off after reaching the limit. The timer override described in the manual works, but the times at the higher settings are much too short. The temperature settings seem off - maybe they are accurate at the plate surface, but the utensil cooking surface doesn't reach that temperature. Works poorly with an induction conversion hob.If you have very good induction cookware, and low temperature and cooktime requirements, it's adequate. It appears to be well-made, and of good quality, but crippled by the lack of control over temperature and time. Does not have a grounded plug, btw.

What an amazing little cooktop - cooks in 1/3rd the time
We bought this induction cooktop a month ago for our new house. We have electric stove in the house as well - We have always worked on gas and therefore did not like electric. My sister in law highly recommended induction cooking to us - she is a leading endocrinologist and an expert in nutrition. I was a bit apprehensive in the beginning but before spending $3000 on a Bosch or a Miele, I decided to try with a single cooktop. But wow what a machine. It cooks in 1/3rd the time of electric or gas. My mom has been using gas stove for years and she was blown away by how quickly she can cook anything on induction. I clean the kitchen, and what a relief this machine is. Since the surface (Ceram Schott glass surface) does not get hot (induction cooking is based on magnetic base and only heats the base), you can just wipe off the spills. I use CeramBryte to keep the Ceram Schott surface looking like new and it takes no more than 27 seconds (yes I times it!).Now onto this machine - Fagor 1800 Watt Induction cooktop. This amazing little machine is brilliant with one flaw. it has easy temperature control, timer (90 minutes max), and surface lock. It cooks really really well. So much so, that my mom is now getting one too. We cook twice a day so you can imagine. Flaw - it is loud. The fan is quite loud. For the life of me I cannot figure out why this induction cooktop has a loud fan.I am sold!

not terrible but not great either
Our stove top broke and we could not get anyone to repair it for over a month (we live on an island). Picked up the Fagor so that we could still do some cooking.Like its design and styleDo not like the relatively low level of control you have over the power. Going from level 3 to level 4 goes from not boiling to boiling like crazy! Would be nice if there were more than 7 settings on the cooktop so that we could fine tune our results better. Also found that after it ran for 15 minutes or so it would suddenly power off. Was frustrating to use.
