... adds to the decor of my garage as a good looking fixture
Light is extremely bright (good thing) and adds to the decor of my garage as a good looking fixture. The price is reasonable-about $10-$15 lower than light of a similar type.Light works like a charm and flawlessly (mounted on the south side of my garage)--coming on very near sunset, and going off very near sunrise (been mounted 4 months now). One of the biggest mistakes people make with these "ambient light front facing photo sensing" fixtures is to mount them TOO HIGH and UNDER THE EVES, and at times they will stay on all day (or shut off 2-3 hours after sunrise and turn on 2-3 hours before sunset)--especially on the north side of a building. Don't do it! Mount them lower or in a place where the sensor will be in the sun all day and not shaded by the eve or other objects. This also means that their function will not be perfect on the north side of a building in the northern hemisphere. If you want an auto turn on/off light for shaded or north facing mounting, you'll have to spend $150 more for a (ugly and commercial looking) light with a photo sensor on the top (and, of course, mount it above roof level)........or you can just put it on a timer (and maybe seal the photo sensor with a piece of opaque tape) and it will work anywhere.I am very pleased with this fixture as it is well constructed, easy to mount, and does what it was designed to do.Also, plan on replacing the bulb every year or 2--remember these lights are on 1/2 the day (yearly average) and that a lot of hours for a sodium vapor bulb. I always keep a spare bulb handy.

Great light for the price
After my lights of america light died after about one year of usage, and a spare brand new in the box fixture was DOA, I was on the search for a new light for the backyard. Initially I looked for something that would use the 9166b bulbs that I have, and was not made by lights of america. Not much luck, so I started to look at other options. After researching MH and LPS/HPS bulb technology, I decided to give HPS a try. I picked this light as I thought it would look better than the barn style lights when I mount it on the garage. First of all I like the look. It is unobtrusive. It is fairly heavy for its size and appears to be well constructed. It has run well for the last two months with only one problem. The photo sensor died, and it stopped turning off last week. It would turn off for an few hours early in the morning when the light received direct sunlight. I picked up a sensor from home depot that looked about the right size. It happened to be the exact same part that was in the light. I don't know if the failure was due to a bad sensor or the heat in the fixture. I will know in another month or two.I plan to buy another when the bulbs for my other security light burn out. This light has about 50% more lumens than the 9166b, and it shows. The yellow light is very easy on the eyes late at night also. My alternate security light has two 100 watt halogen bulbs, and it seems dark in comparison to this.

This light was mounted to the previous junction box and was very easy to install
I purchase this light to replace an older outside security light for my home. This light was mounted to the previous junction box and was very easy to install. I chose this fixture because of the good reviews and the non industrial look. This fixture give off a good bright light with even lighting over about it's 180 degree coverage area. Now if it will last about 15 year like my previous HP Sodium light I will be well pleased.Jan 2017 - Original bulb had to be replaced which has been almost 3 years. I'm ok with a bulb life that lasted over 10,000 hours. As I had to get on a ladder to replace the bulb I noticed the weathering of the unit itself. My light faces south and it exposed to direct sunlight and harsh weather but it is an outside light. Judging from the weathering of the fixture I will bet that it will not last another 3 years. I reduced my rating to 3 stars.

Disappointing fixture
This provided great light while it lasted. The light looked great - I had it mounted on the wall of my barn right by the entry door. It provided a superb amount of light, and really helped illuminate the back side of the field and the end of the road down to the barn. However, like many other reviewers stated, there were problems with the photocell. It worked on and off for the first 3-4 weeks of ownership, and after that it stayed on the whole time. Being located where it was, I sometimes was able to manually turn off the switch during the day, and back on at night. However, often it just remained on for days before I would have the opportunity to turn it off. The light quit working after about 15-16 months, and I purchased a new bulb at Lowe's. However, the fixture did not work, and the new bulb did nothing - the fixture had simply quit working. I was very disappointed. Now I have been searching for 6 months for a replacement fixture, but there is nothing else out there that looks similar and that makes me think i will have any better results than this.

Covers a large area at a low cost. A light sensor switch is included. HPS is the most efficient light source available.
I replaced five 100 watt Metal Halide lights with these lights. The light is yellow vs the pure white of Metal Halide. The amount of light produced looks the same for less power consumption. A power vs light output chart that I found shows HPS to be the most efficient light source; even more efficient than LED lights. This fixture includes a sunlight sensor switch that saves power by shutting off when light is not needed. That sensor must be purchased separately for many other fixtures. The housing is plastic on an aluminum back plate. It is easy to mount. Unfortunately, I've only experienced a 5 year life from most plastic fixtures that are exposed to sunlight, the UV makes it brittle and yellows the lens. The fixture becomes un-servicable when it breaks or falls apart while changing a bulb. I suggest trying to mount the fixture in a shaded area under a roof overhang or in a covered area.
