Pan Love Letters of Great Men and Women

so far i have bought this book 5 times, mainly because people keep borrowing it and giving it back, it makes a great gift and is a very comforting read for anyone going though a break up or through first time love... it shows that even hundred of years ago we were all worried about the same things...one tip though buy the hardcover it looks better than the paperback

It might just be me, but once you read the introduction to the letters, especially the men, when you learn of their infidelity and bad behaviour towards their wives, suddenly the letters to their mistresses no longer seem romantic...

Dipping in and out of this book is a pleasure. Reading literary delights by famous figures from the past is a beautiful treat. It is an exploration of the human capacity to love and express love as well as giving a more personal insight into histories' greatest romances and tales. It also explores language used at its very best, written in moments which conjure the imagination wildy.

A good reference point of how the view on love and romance changed throughout the years, and a fun and interesting read!
