TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (291) Book + Online (TExES Teacher Certification Test Prep)

I waited until I took my test to write this review, and I just recieved my scores and I passed all of the five tests and I owe it all to this book.A little background on me. I recently graduated from college with a minor in education, and have been doing Texas Teachers as my alt certification program. Quite frankly I had no idea what to expect with the TExES as everyones experience varies, but with this book it was overall great!I read this book cover to cover, taking the online tests as I went through each subsection. Now let me just say, the online tests are incredibly beneficial. In the beginning in my worst areas (math and FAHP) I was scoring really badly on the test, but I studied for about an hour to two each day for about two and a half weeks. By this point I had taken all of the online tests for all subjects, so I decided to go back and review the specific competencies I was struggling on for each subject. That's when I started to focus mostly on these, creating quizlet's for the terms I kept missing/confusing and looking over practice questions for those competencies specifically. The last week and a half before my exam I studied basically full time, I didn't go to work for this week and I just did practice exam after practice exam until I saw my scores truly improve and until I basically felt like I actually had it down. However, other resources I also used were quizlet, I also watched a few YT vids (especially for music terms because I have no music ability, at all!) and looked over other free material I found on the internet. But anyways, these are just the things that worked for me and everyone is super different.Honestly, I owe all of my success to this book. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

First of all, I am glad this book is sold through Amazon Prime because Amazon is the BEST. I am forever loyal. I had ordered the TExES Generalist EC-6 191 book on March 14, only to find out that this book was realized 10 days later. When I ordered, there was nothing that said this, so I was pretty frustrated. The book was delivered to a US address but when I realized my mistake, I had it with me in Spain, where I'll be through the summer. I asked customer service if it was possible to return it, and they said there was no point in returning it from Spain, so donate the book and order the 291 book. I got a refund for the 191 book AND Amazon covered the shipping charges to have the 291 book shipped to me in Spain. Thank you so much, Amazon!!!The book itself is excellent. First of all it's HUGE. So. much. content. But, it's really helpful. The book recommends that you start with the diagnostic test. I'm so happy that I did. It turns out, I don't have as much studying as I thought. What a relief! The diagnostic test helps you know your weakest points, so that you can study those and improve your score. I like this strategy because to try and study everything in the book would be so difficult! It really is so much information. The book also has great study tips, and breaks down the information in an easy format. Plus, it comes with practice exams that you can take in the book or online. I will take mine online because it simulates how it will be on test day because the test is an online test. Anyways, this is the only book you need to study for the exam. It has everything you'd and is totally worth the money.

My program was making me use 240 tutoring and that did not help me at all. I failed my first attempt taking the test. I was suggested I use this book by a teacher friend of mine. IT WORKS!!! seriously BUY THIS BOOK. The second time I took my test Oct 19, 2019, I passed 4 out of the 5. I just have to pass the science test now, but I only failed it by two questions. I am in a fast track teaching program so everything is done really fast and they make us take this test by a certain time. That is something else I feel interferes with taking this test and trying to study. Doing a lot of assignments plus having to worry about this test can become stressful. So you'll probably pass your first time for sure. What I did was take the diagnostic test, saw which competencies I needed work on, and then read word for word about the competency in the book. I then used the practice test in the book as a study guide. Then I went online and did the practice test on there and pretended like I was taking the real thing. But just study vigorously and you got it! DO NOT FEEL BAD IF YOU DON'T PASS THE FIRST TIME! I am hoping you do though!!! Good Luck!!!

Great prep book. I used this, some online quizlets, and the a little of the official TEA prep manual, and passed my content exam with flying colors. A couple notes though: there isn't much, if any, Texas constitution specific content in this prep book, but I've seen such questions show up on practice tests, including the ones included with this book. Also, when doing the online practice tests, you may notice a little checkbox that says "Review Later." As far as I can tell, this doesn't populate a list for you anywhere (or maybe it's after you finish but before you submit - I always just submitted when I was done). On the actual content exam, though, this does mark your items on a list if you want to go back to them at the end. I suppose they are trying to familiarize you with the options you have on the real thing.Edit: I agree with another reviewer that the Diagnostic test is a starting point only. After taking the practice tests I probably ended up reading the whole book.
