Solid cast iron kettle!
This kettle is used primarily for creating humidity on a wood-burning stove. I debated whether or not it could serve as a cast iron tea kettle on my gas stove. I've loved cast iron cookware for generations and am a committed hot tea drinker. In looking at expensive cast iron tea kettles, I decided I had nothing to lose trying this one even though it wasn't really advertised as a tea kettle. The cost is extremely reasonable.True to form, it's a cast iron tea kettle! It works beautifully on my gas stove and gives my tea a mellower, sweeter taste. It is very heavy and somewhat cumbersome to pour, but I'm exceedingly happy with its quality. For those concerned about rust in a cast iron kettle (not an enamel-lined teapot which is not for heating water), pour all water out of the kettle after you fill your teapot. The sustained heat of the kettle itself with cause any remaining moisture to evaporate. Don’t forget to leave the lid open to assist in the evaporation! I have not had one scintilla of rust in my kettle. I couldn't be happier.

Good Moisture Additive
Other wood stove evaporation containers with colored enamel chip over time. This unit is unfinished and simply black cast iron so it should ware and look better. Also holding two quarts it needs less attention to refills than most smaller pieces.

I would not recommend it to anyone except for decoration
This tea pot is too heavy to pour. It requires two potholders because the handle pops out of it's holders.I would not recommend it to anyone except for decoration.

One Star
The handle pops off when you try to pour it...unsafe, not usable. Will not accept return.

Leaks! Don’t Buy! Read Other 1-2 Star Reviews.
Gave as a gift for Xmas. First use (after Xmas dinner) the kettle leaked water through small hole or crack that can’t be seen. Not sure how cast iron this heavy can leak but this does. Very embarrassing and aggravating. I should have checked the 1-2 star reviews before buying because this issue has happened to others. Do not buy this product.
