An excellent Frida Kahlo biography for children
Little Golden Books, a trusted name in children’s books for generations, has included the legendary and iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in its series of notable personalities who have made important contributions to our world.Today, Frida Kahlo is known as one of the most important and influential Mexican artists of the Twentieth Century. Her paintings sell for millions of dollars on those rare occasions when they go on the auction block. But in her lifetime, Frida Kahlo received limited attention from the art world, and experienced much physical suffering and pain from polio and from a near fatal trolley car accident when she was a teenager. However, in spite of these personal adversities she refused to give up and maintained a positive attitude toward achieving her goals in life. This led to Frida focusing her attention on the world of art when her injuries forced her to change her plans from becoming a doctor. There are parts of Frida Kahlo’s life that are controversial and tragic. However, this child-friendly biography stays away from those areas and focuses on the positive aspects of Frida’s life and her colorful artwork.I highly recommend this Little Golden Book about the truly amazing and very colorful Frida Kahlo.

A vibrant intro to exploring other cultures!
I bought this for my 5-year-old, she had to read a biography for her summer assignment. It’s a vibrant, beautiful book. I won’t give any spoilers, but the description of Frida’s childhood resonated with my daughter. “La Casa Azul.” It’s also a very nice way to introduce our kids to other cultures - encouraging them to read about famous people in other countries who were just as curious and creative as they are!
