Good value, easy to install
Been in our house for 4 years, and the previous owner had installed a UV light in 2009 that recently died ( likely the transformer) so was looking for a new unit. So far I am very pleased with this BioShield unit. It came well packaged and is a compact size, and the unit itself appears to be well made. Instructions were minimal but would not be a challenge for most DIY'ers. Great hole saw is included. As another buyer commented, the posting implies that 4 bulbs are included, but only 2 are in the package although they look like 'double' bulbs, so maybe that is what is meant. There were some comments about the template not being correct, and I can see their point, so make sure that the unit itself will clear any projections before drilling the holes. One thing not mentioned anywhere is how to replace the bulbs - with our old unit the bulb could be replaced without removing the unit, but this one the unit itself must be taken off to replace the bulbs. Not an issue, just an observation. Again, a good value.

sturdy all metal construction, no ozone smell
Very impressed with construction quality of this UV light. The entire structure is made from sturdy metal. The flange that sits on the ductwork has a gasket material applied to it already. There are indicator lights for each bulb that show proper operation. Before installing, I tested this unit by running in a small room to make sure that it didn't produce ozone. After operating for several hours, I shut it off and stuck my nose inside and did not smell the classic metallic scent of ozone. It was a slight smell that reminded me of suntan lotion, but after doing some googling it appears that's the UV light interacting with materials inside the room I placed it. Installation was fairly easy for me since I already had a UV light that had failed. Just had to open up a couple of the holes since these bulbs were spaced further apart. Only negative I can point out is that the cord on this unit is way too short. I needed an extension cord to reach outlet to plug it in. Other than that it seems like a top notch unit with high quality construction and quality bulbs that don't produce ozone. Expect to replace the bulbs every 12 to 18 months if you're running it continuously. Even though the bulbs may continue to shine, the UV output does start to drop over time and while they may look like they're working the UV output might not be enough to control mold and mildew inside the ductwork.

Bad Smell!!
I was initially impressed with this unit. I read all of the reviews and was prepared for the installation issues regarding the wrong template etc. I used the shipping foam from the box as a template and it worked fine. Now the problem.I installed the unit in the plenum of my AC/Furnace above the evaporator coil. I started noticing a strong burning smell after turning the unit on and letting it run. The unit itself does not feel warm nor does the cord. I opened the access panel to the plenum and the smell immediately knocked me back. This means that the smell is being generated by the bulbs themselves inside the plenum. This is not a smell you can get used to or overlook. It chokes you after a few whiffs of it (at the source).I am disappointed because I had high hopes. The power (72 watts) and the price are both fantastic compared to lowered power more expensive units. I bought this to get rid of smells in my home. However, as much as I want to keep it, the smell it generates is worse than the smell I'm trying to get rid of. If the manufacture can't offer a solution I will have no choice but to return it.UPDATE: 09/19/2022I contacted the manufacture via telephone and informed them of the bad smell. They immediately apologized and offered to send me an entirely new unit. Estimated delivery date 3-5 days. I will update after receipt and testing of new unit.UPDATE: 09/23/2022Okay, this company gets 5 stars for customer service and timely responsiveness. I called them on Monday and informed them of the bad smell coming from the unit I originally purchased. They promised to ship me a new one and sure enough I received a new unit four days later. The smell is still present with the new unit but to a much lesser degree. If it does not get any worse, it could become bearable. Based on what I have been reading from other users of UV lights the smell could be ozone, I guess. I am hoping the smell dissipates the longer the unit runs.On another note, I noticed the Amazon price for this unit has gone from $89.00 to $124.97.

Amazing! I should have done it sooner! Great product!
To make the story short - I've started getting musty smells 6 months ago - I thought it was spoiled food or dirty socks of my kids somewhere in the house, but then I smelt it from the AC vents. I cleaned the in-house coils with foam and installed two sets of these lights right after I received these - one above the coils and another behind the coils in front of the blower which is also facing the drain pain (that's where a lot of stink accumulates) - took me about 40 minutes for both (I did very quality work and took my time). I'm grateful they ship you the saw bit and a drill so all you need is just a screw driver gun / drill.. Very easy install - just measure correctly. Results - the musty smells are gone (Yahoo!!!) and the air doesn't smell at all! Very impressive The air feels cold and clean! One other huge difference I noticed which is very impressive, is before the install when we were cooking the cooking odor would travel throughout the whole house naturally and sucked via the return and then the whole house would have that odor, now after the install that cooking odor is gone - I think it's the bulbs clear that smell..Overall, for a bit over $ 100 (for two units) I get high air quality - VERY impressed and pleased. Thank you!
