My son carries his lunch bag in his backpack. Would the outside of this bag get his books wet because of condensation?

No the outside stays dry, sweats real bad inside though. Also doesn't stay cool for more than five hours. I was disappointed with this bag.

does this work for keeping things warm ie baby formula?

It doesn't work for keeping things warm. Plus, when the bag is not frozen, the sides of the bag are soft and won't stand on its own.

Will this fit a 6-pack of 12 oz beer bottles?

Cans for sure. The long neck bottles were a tight squeeze, although I was able to zip and close the bag.
