The Geography of Strabo: An English Translation, with Introduction and Notes

Strabo: one volume edition translated into English
This is an excellent book, and well worth every penny (or cent). I bought it for a university assignment. It came in very handy. Footnotes are kept to a strict minimum, professionally so: they mainly concentrate on lacunae or dubious reading and are sparse. On the other hand, inline citations are placed at every point necessary. Roller's translation is very readable indeed. Both the English chapter divisions and the Greek manuscript sections are noted. This is the ultimate edition of Strabo. 10/10

Five Stars
A useful edition in one volume. This new translation may be compared with that in the Loeb Classical Library.

Clarity and well set out
It has always been a challenge to find a really useful translation of Strabo and this modern translation fits the bill. An excellent introduction put everything in context. The language is modern but not overly so - and does reflect the flavour of the original to some extent. The work is an essential requirement for discovering the ancient world - it is not just about locations it contains back stories and myth as well as observations on people, social norms etc.,There is an online map which mentions every place in the book and it is absolutely essential to use this to make sure where you are!
