Intense and realistic
I'm part of a police family, and feel this is definitely one of the most realistic cop shows ever. Sadly, the good guys don't always win, loved ones get caught in the crossfires of life, cases don't always get solved, promotions/assignmrents don't happen where they should, but there are many positive moments shown un the job. A lot of action-- not for children, or squeamish. Photography, direction, entire production is excellent, and the acting is superb. Each Season completes a main case in the season, with some cases spilling over to the next season, but doesn't have a cliffhanger feel, except between episodes. Shows main story lines with just enough of personal lives to explain why the characters act as they do.Very few cons: Occasionally, the timing is a just a drop too fast (getting from one place to the other is sometimes unrealistic-- this is LA).I never heard of this show when it first aired, then started to hear this year of it streaming , but only started watching a month ago, and binged a few episodes a day. There is Bosch Legacy which I look forward to.Well done. I haven't read the novels yet, but certainly intend to!

ALL Seasons were WORTH watching!
Best part was the lack of un-needed porn (as the shows love to toss in currently). I am familiar with the books (althou it has been some time since reading them) and "still" enjoyed the show. Casting was well done.Only issue I had was staying up to watch 3 episodes nitely when I should be in bed.

Writing and Acting are Brilliant
I first stumbled across Bosch a year ago during the Prime Series tryouts. I thought the first episode was intriguing and I was happy to hear it was picked up for a full season. Flash forward to Friday the 13th last week and the entire series appeared. First, Titus Welliver is a great actor. He is one of the few who can dominate a scene while remaining soft spoken. It seems the softer he speaks, the more authority he commands. I first noticed him on Lost, then he really carried his scenes in SOA. Bottom line is that if he guest starred on an episode of Sister Wives I could even watch that trash.Fortunately, Mr. Welliver is not in Sister Wives, yet anyway, but in the extremely well written Bosch. Book adaptations are probably easier to pull off on the big screen, or even better in a mini series format similar to the Stand. Justified was the exception to that rule, and now Bosch stakes its claim as brilliantly adapted series of writings to the small screen. For fans of the books I think the series does a good job of staying true to the character, if not the stories verbatim. Fair warning, there are some changes, for example Amazon Hieronymus is 47, which would impute to a birth year of 1967. For those wondering if being a 5 fearless five year old is what made Harry a legendary tunnel rat in Vietnam I hate to crush your spirit. Instead, Harry was a special forces tunnel rat in the first gulf war. Some other changes are obvious as well, but I like this version of Harry Bosch.I remember reading the first couple books 15 years ago and the spirit of the Harry Bosch in those books is very well represented by Welliver and the writers. Where the show really takes off is in the supporting cast. One Wire alum is always a plus. Bosch has two, and both are in prominent roles. Bosch's partner is the wholly, totally underrated Jamie Hector, aka Marlo Stanfield. Hector turns in a great performance here as the young sophisticated alternative to the old pro Bosch. If one Wire vet isn't enough, call in the great Lance Reddick. Reddick, aka Sgt. Cedric Daniels to Wirephiles, dominates scenes as well. But while Welliver dominates with a soft spoken presence, Reddick just plain dominates. Part of it is his size, part his shaved head, but all of it leads to his piercing eyes which shoot fire at all who dare question his authority. All in all I loved it. I owe it to myself to watch it again, and my rating may change at that time. One worrisome note I need to look into is whether the show is trying. Trying in general is good, but trying to be the Shield, when there was only one Shield, is bad. Trying to be the Wire is bad, there is only one Wire. I am all but certain neither is the case, but there are some disturbing Vic / Harry moments that make it necessary to look a little deeper. The bottom line is that the more good shows that are out there, the more will be made. Netflix took on the UK version of House of Cards and made it meaningful in America. Shows like Lillyhammer, Orange is the New Black, and a new season of Arrested Development are proof that this style of viewing works. If Amazon succeeds with a hit show it will be a game changer. A war between netflix and amazon to produce high quality in house entertainment could be the best thing that ever happened to quality television.

Reliable seller. Region 4-PAL may not be compatible with American devices.
Items arrived securely and neatly packed in mint condition.SmokeCDs attempted to make sure I was aware that DVDs were Region 4-PAL before sending, so check SPAM folder for Amazon e-mails and/or “View Message” section of “Problem with Order” link as Amazon itself made no indication that the items were being held and just seemed to start guessing at dates that the order would arrive once the deadline had passed.SmokeCDs was thankfully patient waiting for my response.Once I confirmed (incorrectly) that I had the ability to play Region 4-PAL DVDs, they were sent immediately.Note for people like me:Being able to play Region 4 DVDs like “Happy” seasons 1 & 2 and “The Tick” complete series does not apply to Region 4-PAL DVDS, as far as I can figure out.

pas ce j'ai demandé
Malgré que j'aie demandé si le DVD était aussi en français et qu'on m'aie répondu oui. Ce DVD était seulement en anglais. J'ai pu le retourner mais à ce jour je n'ai reçu aucun remboursement.

True to the Connelly books
This series is great. Michael Connelly must be very pleased with the production. The Bosch characterisation is just so good and the other characters are also good. The dialogue is just like being in a real police squad room.

Can’t be played in this country
This DVD set is useless as it’s rated for ‘region 4’ and can’t be played on North American DVD player. Garbage

American noir
First of all, this set of 3 dvds is from Australia and you will need a multi region dvd player or blu ray player to watch the series. The company which manufactured the dvd is actually German and it co produced the series with Amazon.I have a simple Panasonic multi region blu ray player. I inserted the first disc and it played straight away."Bosch" is a "made in Amazon " tv series and is as good as other Amazon's series such as " Hand of God" and "Alpha House".The story is not the most original one but what is really thrilling about this series is its film noir atmosphere and the sober, excellent cinematography. No gratuitous shaky cameras here. (most of the time, better saying)When I say "film noir" I mean, of course, a contemporary film noir although the actor who plays Bosch does have some "Bogart" about him and, in a way, he even looks like Humphrey Bogart.Scandinavian noir is the new fashion now but, watching "Bosch", I am reminded that film noir is essentially an American product (started by German cinema) and they do it better than anybody else. The two main actors, one playing the detective Bosch and the other one a criminal, are excellent. This season one has 10 episodes of about 40 minutes each. The series is based on the books by Michael Connelly ( I never read his books so can't comment on that). There are plenty of personages like Bosch in the cinema and literature but Titus Welliver is really great as Bosch. He is one of best personifications of that sort of character I've seen.Image and sound are excellent but the dvds don't have subtitles, what is the only thing I didn't like about this set.I didn't use to pay much attention to dvd studios but started to do it after noticing a pattern of quality (or lack of ) in the production of those studios. "Bosch" was filmed in the US, co produced by Amazon and Fabrik, a company from the German group International Red Arrow (nothing to do with the British company named Arrowfilms), the dvd is manufactured in Australia and the shop I bought the set from is in New Zealand...Go figure.

Dead Men Tell No Tales
I tried to get this on Betamax for my Grandfather - in the end I got it on Amazon Video and I used an old Betamax Video Camcorder and filmed it from the screen - like a 1980's bootleg video of ET, complete with people walking past to go to the toilet or the screen going dark when the camera was hidden from some cinema employee. When I filmed the last episode I felt proud and I ran to show it to Pappa Pops.He was dead.Medical authorities estimated he'd been dead for over eight weeks and I am now facing prosecution for neglect and fraudulently receiving state pension payments for a deceased person.I did it for the love of Pappa Pops.I intend to call Titus Welliver as a character witness.
