Guns N' Roses: Use Your Illusion Vinyl LP Album Pack

This is by far a progressive step forward in the GNR album world & the music world. As a kid i grew up listening to my moms cassette tapes of Appetite & Lies so as i grew up i always had an appreciation for GNR & the 80s punk & metal scene(Motley Crue,Metallica,Kiss,etc.) So as i got older my taste got heavier and i developed a liking for Pantera,Eyehategod,Skinless,SFU,etc. Back to the album,the band changed the lineup a bit as they added Dizzy Reid on the keys & Matt Sorum on the drumkit. This album is a 2 part piece broken into 2 volumes,vol.1 or Illusion 1 is more on the line of in your face punk,blended with the new direction of 9 minute epic songs that are pretty much like opera(in the sense of tragedy & the rise of their searing guitar solos and piano interludes. The band is tight,they pull off some fast paced hard rocking tracks such as Right Next Door to Hell,Perfect Crime,Bad Obsession,Back off Bitch,Double Talkin' Jive,Garden of Eden,Don't Damn Me,Bad Apples & Dead Horse. Those are your more fast-paced tracks with the punkish attitude and the Appetite tracks,then you have the epic songs that are more constructed like Dust & Bone,Live and Let Die(Paul McCartney cover)Don't Cry,You Ain't the First,November Rain,The Garden,and the epic closer Coma. I divided the songs based on the slower songs and the faster songs because they are 2 completley different sides of the spectrum. The band really pulls it off here with this gem,but to really appreciate the album as a whole you just have to have both volumes & play them back to back to get the full feel of the concept behind it. There is everything here from bluesy driven guitar solos from Slash & Izzy holding down the rhythm,Duffs bass is nice and audible on this album and he holds it down nice with Matt. Axl's voice is screaming and then his calm lows are perfectly in tune with the keys. Some of my favorite tracks on here are Dust & Bones,Don't Cry,You Ain't the First,Bad Obsession,Back off B***h,Double Talkin Jive,November Rain,The Garden,Bad Apples & Coma.Trust me this album is killer,all in all the band is wicked solid and from start to finish it is a musical genius of an album. I have heard so many great bands and so many great albums that range from every side of the spectrum,and this is an amazing album.

Unlike other bad reviews, all four albums were correctly recorded (others said one side was recorded on both sides). However, the sound sounds like someone recorded the CD from a tape recorder and eteched that music into the vinyl. I’ve grown up around vinyl my entire life. I love the sound of it. Scratching noise aside, it just sounds like a weird re-recording of an actual recording. I only bought this to listen to it, not as a collectors item. That being said, the covers are just an alright printer machine re-print of the jpeg (of the actual covers). Buy this item to listen to, but not be completely blown away by the quality. I’ll keep it (even with its issue) mainly due to laziness of having to make a trip to the UPS store and have to order another one.

Update: Can you give less than one star? I received a replacement which was worse than the first. Quality control at the pressing plant is worse than I thought. Side 1 was a scratched. Not scuffed but actually scratched. Side 2 actually had dust pressed into the vinyl which causes a static sound you can’t remedy. Sides 3 and 4 play fine but the record is warped. Bottom line just save your money.Three stars only because the pressing I received is horrible. Quality control at Geffen’s pressing plant is lacking. The spindle hole is off center so when playing the record the stylus looks like a drunk driver swerving all over the road. Record1 is perfectly flat but record 2 is warped. Waiting on a replacement.

This is a replacement, and sounds just like the first one, has a loud static noise!! The hole is so tight that I almost had to break it to get it off!!

I bought this way back when it first came out. Needless to say I lost all my CD's in a divorce. I took a chance and ordered it. Sounds just like the one I had. Every instrument comes out clean and clear along with the vocals. Great album and arrangement by G N R. Only down one side, this along with the other CD's I ordered came with the jewel cases cracked and this one in particular the inside that hold the CD was broken. It gets costly replacing jewel case after jewel case. Amazon needs to step it up a bit and box these CD's instead of a poorly padded envelope.

I love Use Your Illusion I. But after the horrible pressing of Appetite For Destruction I got a couple of years ago, I probably should have known I'd receive another vinyl that was treated as an afterthought by Geffen Records. This time it was an off-center center hole AND a warped disc (the latter could have been an Amazon storage issue, I suppose), so right out of the box I was listening to a severely modulated nightmare album. Sent right back. Won't bother ordering again until some kind of special release that I know will be quality.

I grew up on GnR so I remember when Use Your Illusion I & II were released everyone got a copy. Now I get to own this on vinyl which is a great addition to my music room. Personally I like Use Your Illusion II more since that has my favorite songs. Now on the pressing side. My did come with a slight warp and a few minor (barely detectable) surface defects but nothing really terrible. Seems thee days labels will spit these out as fast as possible with little QC. However at the end of the day it's all about the music so grab a copy!

If you dig around for the old clips before AXL went off the deep end and re-wrote reality on TV and in court, you will see that they wrote all of these, in some version, by the time they signed for Appetite. Axl's genius lyrics were actually a duplication and repeat of Nice Boys, which they never wrote, only parroted. That's why it was on the LIES album. I also haven't seen a correctly published version of the those lyrics. Axl was very good at filling G'N'R with inside jokes. The line "Kills the pain with a BIC and a Spoon" should help you out...

Decent performance by the band but the video and sound editing is poor ,it feels very Amateurish ,you don't feel they are performing in front of 50k fan's more like a dress rehearsal ,it's like they never did anything to the footage after it was filmed it could certainly use a major upgrade as some big bands have done when remastering an old concert for a Blu ray release,releasing the concert on 2 separate discs is beyond crazy they could have easily just have put them in the one box.

A couple of dud tracks let it down somewhat. The faster tracks the better ones.

Like most digitalised albums? Has lost that great sound of the original album. Still a good CD, but give me the original any day

This is truly an excellent album and would recommend it. I wont say anymore because other people's views have reflected what I would have said. One disappointing thing is that I ordered my copy at the beginning of February and it was scheduled to arrive by the 26th and it has not yet arrived. It has not even been dispatched!! So for the meantime I shall have to listen to the album online. I have cancelled the order. The seller is CharlieParks and I would strongly urge anyone not to order anything from him because you shall be disappointed.

Brings back memories. Great music.

Guns and roses where the perfect sex, drugs and rock n roll band, they were iconic with the cat in the hat slash, axl, duff and matt.This is really the high point of guns n roses career, releasing two albums at the same time and them getting the spots 1 and 2 on the American billboard. Special.
