Lethal sideshow...
In 1941, Britain stood alone against Nazi Germany. In North Africa, British forces were spread thin. Prime Minister Winston Churchill directed action against Vichy France-held Syria and Lebanon, which could conceivably serve as an entry point for German operations in the Middle East. A grab bag of British, Australian, New Zealand, and Indian units undertook the Allied fight against the Vichy French. This Osprey Campaign series book is a fascinating narrative on an overlooked World War II theater of operations. In the event, Vichy France forces fought hard, and the Allies were very much challenged to reach their objectives. The text includes an interesting collection of period photographs and modern illustrations, maps, and battle diagrams. Well recommended as good coverage on a forgotten fight.

The Darkest WWII Campaign in Syria and Lebanon I have read ever.
In general, the World War II was mostly concentrated on the European and Eastern Asia in the Pacific area theatres except the less-known Middle East areas where the Vichy France under the Nazi Germany's control battled with the Allies. However, that book opened my eyes to understand that Vichy France fought against the Allies in Lebanon and Syria in such hard-pressed battles. Otherwise, I really appreciated that less-known WW2 campaigns little by little for my knowledge. Thank you.

Excellent account of allied fight againt Vichy French forces in Syria and Lebanon
I have enjoyed reading Osprey books for many years. The coverage of WWII campaigns, weapons, tactics, vessels, aircraft, combat vehicles, strategic objectives and results is spot on IMHO.Syria and Lebanon have been thorns in the late 20th and early 21st century

Book
Often unforgotten sector of the war or little reported on. Book does a good job describing operations and fighting formation that contributed to the fighting on this front. Good pictures and maps show the advice of these formation against the French Vichy formations. Good table of organizations provided in the book.

One of the best
This book gripped me from the get go. I knew only little about this campaign and must congratulate the writer for doing such an amazing job in combining the strategy behind it, the operations and the soldiers' experiences into one bloody good read! Well done Osprey.

Useful starter on a neglected campaign
I found this to be a useful primer on the subject which is one that is often neglected or missed. It was in the usual Campaign format so you know what you are getting. However, i felt this book was written very much from an Allied angle and the illustrations/ photographs were predominantly in the Allied favour.
