THE best housewarming gift! I love mine too!
I have owned and been purchasing this item as a gift for over 5 years! I previously had the plastic version, which wears out in less than a year, with regular use. The metal version is a game-changer. I have also taken to purchasing this for every, single house warming I have attended in recent years. It's always a hit! In fiver years, I have only replaced mine once, mainly because I put the plastic parts in the dishwasher, so they break down, but one replacement in 5 years is still pretty amazing. Definitely recommend and will purchase again and again.

Makes my chopping onions so much easier.
So far working very nice. Its sturdy, much better weight than my older plastic Alligator, which the blades finally were too dull to cut after 20 years.

Expensive Mistake. Cheap Plastic Cup. Many Design Flaws. Buyer Beware!!
Hello there!! Queen of all things kitchen. I have every kitchen gadget known to man that will make my life easier preparing food in the kitchen. So, when my 600 year old plastic chopper broke I decided that for the amount of food I chop I should invest in a good sturdy model. So I bought this one.Oh boy. What a huge mistake that was.First, there are design flaws. The plastic clip on container that is supposed to clip in place doesn't. You are supposed to slip 2 tiny plastic pieces into two slots to secure the cup. Took me 20 minutes to get it in there without snapping off the little plastic pieces. It is difficult to maneuver if you can get it into place at all. Then you have to use the flimsy plastic cup to hold onto while slicing. That's the only "handle" on this chopper. The base is flat against the counter so you can't grab that. The base is very sturdy and well made. However, trying to push the newly sliced food into the plastic cup on top is not practical. It jams and applies undo pressure on the cheap plastic cup. Another design flaw. The one positive comment I will make is the blades are beyong sharp. I cut myself pretty good just holding it under the faucet sprayer in the kitchen sink.If I could sent this back I would do that immediately! However, I tried to figure out how to make it work and by doing so missed my return window. Huge and costly mistake on my part.Don't make the same mistake. Do not consider this item.

Sturdy Except Plastic Container
We have enjoyed using our alligator chopper. It is easy to use and moderately easy to clean. The plastic container started to crack within the first month of use. We got in contact and they sent us a replacement piece pretty quickly, which was nice.

Sensational!
What a time saver!!! This thing can chop an onion in a heartbeat! I've just put 18 quart bags of peppers in the freezer with more to go. It really made my job a lot easier and didn't even flinch! The fact that the blades cut so uniformly really helps for dehydrating as well.As with most things, there is a bit of a learning curve. For instance, [and it was spoken of], that the height of what you chop comes out that length. So, if you want all short pieces of whatever, be sure to cut them that height before chopping so that some don't come out twice as long as you expected! The construction of the blades is really top notch. Compared to the plastic type that aren't even glued in the ends and bend easily, these are there to stay. Very impressed. Also it is quite safe. The blades are conveniently marked "caution" on the sharp side so that you know which side you can touch and which you can't. Do be VERY respectful though, as those blades are sharp as can be.The food container looked so small in the video that I had my doubts about it. However, when I got it I was pleasantly surprised at how much it holds and how easy it is to empty. Just a gentle push inward on the side with the single clip and it pops right open....same for re-attaching. It does help to turn the whole thing upside down when dumping it, especially if it is really full.As for cleaning...it's a breeze! Just be sure to rinse as soon as you are done. I did find that when I wasn't ready to chop the next thing quite yet, if you leave the food container on, it keeps the blade from drying out in the meantime while you are preparing another veggie or fruit.Being a vegetarian, I feel sure this Alligator is going to get plenty of use and do me well for a good long time. Even though it is pricey, it is well worth it to have a sturdy tool that can do the job without falling apart in a short time. I love it! Don't know how I've done without it.

Could be a great product. Cheap manufacturing.
It should be better, but it's not. They use the same plastic made cutters as the cheaper ones. I used the 1/4" to make the best pico de gallo. Then was going to make diced potato's and noticed the two tabs on bottom was snapped off. This was an open box. I did not inspect it. I sent it back and will continue my search for one with better design. Also, it worked really well. Just cheaply made for the money.

We'll see if the SS version is better than the plastic...
I've been buying alligator choppers for several years. After looking at my purchase history I was averaging replacing the plastic ones every 18 months. Like other reviewers, the acrylic collector box is extremely fragile and seems to break when you look at it wrong. But I did find that you can order the replacement collectors directly from Alligator for about $15 (comes from overseas but shipping is rather quick and I usually buy 2). I was excited to find that every part on the stainless version are completely replaceable which means when my blades finally give out I can order the little square that contains the blades (again, directly from Alligator) versus having to throw the whole thing out and start over. Haven't used the stainless chopper just yet but I can't imagine it will chop any differently than the plastic version. Additionally the collection bin on the stainless is a fair bit larger to hold more chopped goodness.
