Man-Size in Marble and Others: The Best Horror and Ghost Stories of E. Nesbit (Oldstyle Tales of Murder, Mystery, Horror, & Hauntings)

I highly recommend this especially if you like ghost stories at the level of MR James. It has the best of her work here but also the preamble annotations, by a Michael G Kellermeyer are insightful and brilliant in themselves - full of background and framing the psychology of the era in a modern interpretation. He deliberates how people were guarded in their language, with the requirement to sift dark passages for deeper messages and in particular with regard to Nesbit's own life experiences and bearing. The one thing I found myself needing to do was read the foreward to each story after, to avoid spoiling some of the plot.
