A solidly built tool, useful for both holding and flattening or straightening. However, the brass-line jaws are no panacea. Even working on only sterling silver, they developed grooves quickly, and there is no way to smooth or replace the brass lining. On the other hand, they do mar the silver less than steel jaws, but still leave marks. That both pliers and the workpiece will deform should have been obvious in retrospect, given that on the Moh's hardness scale brass (3) and sterling silver (2.5-3) are of about equal hardness.
