Is the rain barrel BPA-free?

From what I have read recently, the concept of BPA-free's health benefits have proven to be another fallacy. Alas, we are all doomed. (Eventually.) But I will say this: It's classy-looking, beautiful and after 3 years still works well, considering I have never cleaned it. I wish I had thought to spray clear poly periodically on the brass spigot though to maintain the shine. And since i can't take it with me, will happily buy another for my new home. (To add to the front decor, if nothing else. My newly adopted, deer herd may eat all of the plants!)

Do you need to order a spigot, or can you just use the plug in the foot?

I bought 2 of these rain barrels in August 2014. So, in the seven years that I've had them I can say that they do not leak, but that is all that I can say that is good. The spigot on the side of the barrel is poor quality and became nonfunctional within the first month. It produced a trickle of water flow at best anyway, so the fact that the inner parts of the spigot stopped turning was no loss. I fastened a stop valve on the side spigot as a permanent plug. I use the bottom opening on the foot as a spigot by fastening the same type of stop valve there at the bottom and attach a hose to access the rainwater from the foot. The flow is a faster rate but the opening clogs easily. I empty and tip and clean the inside of both of these rain barrels every spring after the tree pollen has subsided. You will need to use a mosquito dunk type of BT product to prevent mosquito breeding as there is no screen. I have these placed under gutters on my tool shed fed by rain chains from the gutters. They do collect rainwater adequately. Also, these barrels did not come with overflow tubes even though there are connections for overflow tubes. You must address the overflow by installing your own overflow tubing as rain barrels fill quickly from roof runoff. I would shop around for other options if I were to buy more rain barrels and would not buy these again.

What is the outside diameter of the over flow spout?

I used Lowe's item 313726, a 1 1/4 inch female sump pump hose kit that fits snuggly over the discharge spout, so outside diameter is close to 1 1/4 inch. You almost don't need a clamp, but I use the clamp that comes with this kit to be sure the hose does not slip off. I bought 2 of these rain barrels and the taps were problematic from the beginning for both. Others also say their taps don't work. I attached a stop valve and a garden hose at the bottom clean out opening but the gravity flow is weak due to this setup being low to the ground.
