An extra curvy cutie.
This Barbie extra doll is a curvy Barbie, so she is a little more generous around the waist & hips than a regular Barbie would be.I love the variety of builds that Barbie has added in recent years & the curvy body is one of my favourites as she just looks more relatable to me while showing that curves don't mean you can't be beautiful & have crazy clothes confidence.Like all the extra Barbies, she has jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees & neck.I was hoping that this Barbie would be blue eyed, because I'm a brunette with blue eyes & Barbies just don't often come with that combination, but on closer inspection I think her eyes are meant to be a violet colour. The sticker on the box is a lolly filled with silver stars. This Barbie has 2 dimples & a a closed mouth smile. She has light pink lipstick, brown eyeshadow & no freckles. She has no painted baby hairs. She wears a netting jacket (which is attached to the dress when you unbox her), a rather long dress which is slit up to almost the top of the thigh on both sides & underneath it a cropped short sleeved crew neck white t-shirt.The dress & t-shirt have velcro closers at the back. The t shirt actually feels like t-shirt material. She has very high platformed white boots & her feet are fixed in the flat foot position. She also comes with a bracelet on one wrist, a small keyboard shaped thing with a wrist strap (if it's meant to be a bag it doesn't look like one to me, yellow star shaped sunglasses, a pair of silver hoop earrings with a star on each one, a 'pet' alligator (crocodile?) & a lollypop. She also has 5 removable hair clips in her hair which are not easy to clip back in so don't take them out unless you mean it.Her hair is shaved on one side & the shaved bit is just painted on rather than flocked. The rest of her hair straight & is thickly rooted but I think restyling it to hide the shaved bit might not look too good as you wouldn't have a parting that looked good.I really like her but for some reason I just don't feel like she came with as much stuff as some of the other extra dolls have. I think it's because the 5 hairclips seem to count as 5 of the accessories. She is still a gorgeous doll & I'm really glad I have her.Any Barbie Extra fan would be happy to welcome her to their collection & those who play with their dolls are always glad to get a Barbie who can sit properly on a chair.

A curvy Barbie Extra 2021
The media could not be loaded. This is another curvy, made-to-move Barbie Extra (this year, 2021 release), replicating the face of a quite recent Fashionista. If you are very well aware of the New Barbie, photos and videos will probably do better than me telling you things as you already know what's what.If you are reentering the world of Barbie with a child after a gap of 20 years or thereabouts, you have to be warned - things have changed.First of all, there are no more soft 'bendy' legs. Those were deemed toxic and were abandoned around 2004 or slightly earlier. Those are no longer in production (or they weren't untill the Rewind series). Those also would have 'melted' if they had ever been washed. If you still have a doll in a box she might be alright if kept responsibly stored. In the modern Barbie world, the dolls move because they have made-to-move bodies. Their joints are made differently and they won't move whichever way (please refer to the photos for guidance). These days dolls are plastic, and as far as I can judge, their faces (heads) are slightly larger. There are also usually (there are exceptions and Barbies that represent other body-builds) different types of bodies for these dolls. And there are three heights - regular (medium height, and it also refers to body type where regular means slender), curvy (these ladies are more often of regular height but are curvier and the regular clothes won't fit them if you are hoping to swap clothes, as well as their feet are slightly longer and larger and look more like a replica of human feet in proportion to the body), and there are tall dolls that can share clothes (?) and definitely shoes with curvy dolls. This doll is a curvy regular height doll. I have attached phots of trying to fit this doll into the regular fashionista clothes and shoes and for those who are not familiar with modern Barbie to see the difference. However! The great news is Extras can share some of their clothes since they are very modern, follow fashion trends and are back to 80'ies theme, meaning baggier clothes. I have attached a photo where the Sophie Vergara face doll is wearing this Extra's white top and this doll is featuring the colourful top of Vergara. They also can share jackets, so there can be some wardrobe to share if you are getting a couple of Extra Barbie dolls. The one point of criticism I have for this girl - the shaved hair above her ear are just painted on. I would love to see the velvet-effect hair as some Fashionistas and BMR1959 Barbies have. Hope they could improve that for future Barbie Extra dolls. The packaging is easy to remove, even the tags in the head (just pull them hard and quickly), the plastic is quite soft and they pop out completely without leaving the sharp bits that you have to trim afterwards. Great innovation.

Really good doll with some unusual extras
The doll has articulation at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and neck. The clothes are well made and removable. Personally I think that blue frilly jacket she came with is hideous though. The doll's other accessories also included earrings, a bracelet, handbag, boots, hair clips, lollipop and star sunglasses. The glasses sit nicely on her head, but I struggled to get her to hold the lollipop. I like the slogan on her dress. It says 'Shine bright like a star' which is a good message for kids I think. This is described as a Barbie Extra doll, although I don't think it's actually Barbie herself, I think it must be one of her friends or sisters instead. I'm not sure why she's 'Extra' she's certainly extraordinary in her dress sense and choice of pet. I love the little alligator. He's so cute. He's made out of solid plastic. The packaging seems to suggest the pink lollipop is his accessory and he should hold it, but he can't. Neither the doll or alligator have names. Nor are any biographical details given. Which I think is good because then the child can use their own imagination to fill in the blanks and create adventures for the two of themI think this is a really well made and designed doll and it's certainly made me reconsider my opinion on Barbie dolls.
