Q: does anyone know if these are rip stop material?

The quality of Material is very strong and it will not rip at all. I got mine for a 2 weeks trip to Philippine and very happy to have it there with me. large pockets for iphone 6 Plus and my reading glass. Big pockets close to my body for my money and at the same time very comfortable short for only $29. Did I answer your question?

No, they do not stretch. They become a little less stiff over time as they are washed and worn. I have also found that they run pretty true to size over time. The ones I recently purchased fit just the same as those I purchased a year or even two ago. Wish my body was as stable. :)) Hope this helps.
