(Updated) "Improved Clumping Formula?" Where'd the cedar go??
Update 01/09/15: Another unwelcome product change, another review update! review update! The manufacturers have switched from packaging their product in sturdy plastic jugs to cheap, flimsy plastic bags. I ordered from 2 different vendors & both times had a busted bag with litter pouring out into the box. I am now trying Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter & BoxieCat.Update: 09/20/14: Since I posted the review below, the company has stopped sending the "new formula" automatically, instead giving you the option to order it while keeping the original formula as the default choice. This pleases me, as I've found the best option for our litter boxes is a combination of the new and original formulas. I wouldn't have known this had the company not shipped the new "improved clumping formula" so I'm actually grateful they did! I am updating my review and hope I can give this product an updated score as well. I highly recommend this product, but as with any product you should read the reviews first to make sure it fits your individual needs.(Original Review)I've been purchasing this product through Amazon Prime for several years now. It was different than any of the other brands of cat litter I had tried, and also my favorite. That's not to say it was perfect, for it certainly was not. As other reviewers mentioned, it produced a large amount of dust. I had to step back after pouring it in the litter box to keep from inhaling the dust cloud. Also, it didn't form large, scoop-able clumps like some litters do (which didn't bother me, because I'm a bit OCD about my cats' litter boxes and find myself scooping out all those tiny, near-microscopic bits anyway, regardless of which litter I use.) But on the plus side, it smelled wonderful, and the light mix of cedar dust with clay seemed more absorbent, therefore preventing the usual clumpy, wet, glued-to-the-side-of-the-litter-box mess I get when my male cat's aim causes all his urine to hit the side of the box and trickle down into a puddle. No product is perfect per se, but this one suited my particular needs perfectly. So, I ordered my usual 3-pack a couple of weeks ago and noticed a sticker affixed to the sides of the jugs that read "Improved Clumping Formula." (uh-oh) Inside the jugs was what appeared to be a straight clay clumping litter. It was not just a minor change. All the cedar chips were gone, along with the absorbency. It might as well have been a cheap grocery store brand... I may write to the company first, but after I finish these 3 jugs, I'm looking elsewhere unless they change the formula back to the original (or at least give us a choice between the Original and "Improved Clumping Formula.") I'm a bit miffed that there is no indication of this change in Amazon's product description. A finicky cat who is used to the old formula may very well refuse to use the litter box with this inside...

Best Clay Clumping Litter I've Ever Used! But...
As far as clay-based clumping litters go, Better Way Cedar Blend is my absolute preference in terms of odor control. It does an awesome job with litter box odor. There is some tracking, though not as much as with others we have tried. I've moved on from clay litters, though, recently because we have gone from covered litter boxes to uncovered, large, high-sided litter boxes. While this still does a pretty good job with odor control, it's just way too dusty. I find that it leaves a layer of dust on the nearby furniture. And, with family members in our household who struggle with allergies, I want to keep the airborne dust to a minimum. My #1 complaint with this litter is the tremendous waste! We have multiple cats and use a lot of litter week after week. We end up sending plastic jug after plastic jug away to be recycled. It's just TOO MUCH WASTE. I wish it came in a large size bag instead.

Cats Love It, Clumps Need Help...
My 4 cats love this litter. I have it in only one of the 3 boxes. They rarely use the other boxes! However, I've noticed a cat urine order around the box, which is inside of a wooden crate-like enclosure covered with carpeting. And the clumps do not stay together very well. It takes longer to scoop because of all the little pieces.I have to say, tho, that when I mixed it with the Fresh Step clumping litter I used to use, the mixture clumped very well! Usually, when you mix 2 types of clumping litter, it doesn't clump very well. This stuff mixed extremely well. So, now I just add some Fresh Step litter to this stuff, and it work great. It's also less expensive than the Fresh Step was, which is always a plus. And, since my 4 guys like it enough to come upstairs instead of using one of the two boxes downstairs, it certainly saves me time every day - Only one box to scoop!Lastly, the free shipping and automatic shipments are extremely helpful, I don't have to schlep the boxes from the store. And the discount for automatic ordering is a real plus. Thanx, Amazon!

Feel like inhaling some cat litter today?
The upside to this litter is that it comes in a jug, and is easy to scoop if you do it on a regular basis (my roomie doesn't think it clumps very well, whereas I find its easier to scoop when its not in giant blocks--take that for what it's worth). Both my roomie and I find that something about the way the litter is made makes it very easy to inhale accidentally when adding new litter to the litter box, similar to, like, baking with powdered sugar (although somewhat less enjoyable, as you might imagine).

Meh.
Not horrible, not outstanding. Cedar smell isn't as strong as I'd hoped. I switched to Boxie Cat. Nothing works better, and with Amazon Prime (can't beat free 2 day shipping), it's worth spending a little more if you can afford it. Why spend less on something that only leaves you frustrated? Three stars for quantity at a decent price.

Not a fan of this cat litter
I just tried it because of the Subscribe & Save, and the fact that it claims to keep the cats going in the box. First of all, it is not very fresh smelling and it requires changing more often. It is smaller sized litter so the cats track it everywhere and it doesn't clump very well. I decided it's not worth it--especially because I live where there is no mail delivery so I have to go and pick up the 70lb box. I know the postal employees probably thank me too. :)

Good Product
The product has worked very well and I would reorder. BUT, when I received, one of the containers was broken and liter was all in the shipping box. I have sent email to Amazon, but not heard back!!!!

very good smell control, no so good on dust
I like crystals cat litter because there's so much less dust. but my cats really prefer clay-based litter. So Better Way Cedar Blend is our compromise. There is definitely dust. But my cats are happy to use this little - they do seem to be attracted to it. So I would especially recommend it to anyone who has cats that tend to pee outside the box.
