The Photograph as Contemporary Art (World of Art)

Very informative. I read this for my Photography class in University. It was interesting enough to introduce me to photographers and summarizes photographs well.

Wonderful and insightful look into photography and those who are making their mark. The book is broken down into several effective and efficient categories with plenty of actual examples. Clearly written and perfect for understanding modern photography and those who practice it. Must reading for the serious art photographer.

Years after doing photo as school assignment, a hobby and later many commercial photo-project, I start to look beyond.Is there any other possibilities to explore and expand my photographic experience?Basically photo for me is setting my eyes to subject/object and then snap it, so whats beyond that?Part of the answer is explained in this 256 pages book. I'm only half trough the book now, I do plan to finish it soon.I'm happy to report that this books helps me understand my current and future photo potent power as a narrative visual media.

Photography isn't the most exciting thing to me in the world, but this book made me interested in learning more about it. Lots of photos are in the book with short descriptions of many of the photographers and what their type they focus mostly on.

One of the best books I've read in my career as an artist. An excellent read for young artists learning their process, as it shows you examples of different artists and their different approaches to their creative processes.

I had to get this for a college course. It was nice to read through and learn from.

Had to get this for a class but it's really good if you want to read it to learn more about photographers and their work. I personally learn different ways of contemporary art in photographs and opened my mind to more ways in creating it.

Very important to be aware of trends in photography and art. This book is a treasure chest of old and new ideas. For those artists who want to create new art and not just repeat the history of art, this book is invaluable.

Charlotte Cotton is one of the finest photography scholar of our time and this book can be easily considered as a benchmark of her career. 'The photograph as contemporary art' can be your portal to the vast empire of contemporary photographic practice. The content of the book is divided in a few chapters and each chapter groups down some artists whose works are similar either stylistically or contextually and helps you to understand the important aspects of contemporary photography. I will suggest the reader to keep your laptop and internet on when you read this book because this one provides you with a plethora of names and the book is only entirely understood when you see the detailed works of the artists mentioned in the book which you can easily do on the internet .

Excelente libro para quienes estén interesados en conocer las distintas corrientes artísticas dentro de la fotografía. Charlotte Cotton hace un repaso histórico y estético muy completo, describiendo el trabajo de grandes exponentes de cada estilo. Sin dudas un libro que cualquier amante de la fotografía que esté interesado en mirar "más allá" de la foto tiene que leer.

The perfect book to get an idea on how to make art with your camera. Especially the first two chapters deal with the idea of photography as a performance and how to tell a story with a single image. The book is full of example images that the author analyses. The images in this book are from artists around the globe I've never heard of (no Adams, Man-Ray, Bresson etc). A couple of times I've found myself on Wikipedia researching more about them. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an inspiration on how to make your own art.
