I finally have my dream surround sound system
I had long wanted to build a dream home theater/surround sound system for my living room. I had an old HTIB Sony unit that was limping after a nearby lightning strike, but had always had my eye on selecting each component individually to build a system that had the power, sound quality and sophistication I was looking for.Even when at full capacity, the Sony system just felt too small when I upgraded from a Samsung 42" plasma to a 65" LG UHD 4K TV in 2016. The picture was enormous but the sound was just missing a fullness and power that was evident with the larger screen..I don't have an enormous room and I am renting our home so anything built-in was out of the question. So, piece-by-piece, I started my research.I decided to go Polk Audio for the center speaker (CS10) and bookshelf speakers (a pair of S20) and A BIC America V-1220 subwoofer. After much research, I decided to stay with the S55 floor speakers by PolkI am pushing all of this through a Denon AVR-S920W.All I can say is WOW. Even on non-5.1 content, the two floor speakers more than adequately fill the room. My old vinyl collection has jumped into a new life, with these speakers. Basic 2-channel stereo tracks sound full and powerful. The built-in woofer adds more than enough bass response to be adequate for most needs. However, when you are running DTS/Dolby Digital content, these speakers (and the rest of that system) absolutely shine. I put in the blu-ray of the original Jurassic Park movie and the walls literally shook. Items fell from the shelves. I felt like I was back in the movie theater watching this movie for the first time all over again. That has been a constant statement in our home since installing these speakers (and the rest of that system): this is exactly how it sounded at the movie theater. Even old DVDs running basic Dolby 5.1 or DTS audio sound rich, full and lifelike. Games on my Xbox are immersive I hear details I have never noticed before. I even noticed that listening to surround sound mixes of some of my favorite albums. On my old Sony HTIB system, my surround sound mix of Dark Side of the Moon was a nearly religious experience. On this system, it feels like I am in the middle of the mayhem.Get yourself some quality speaker cable, banana plugs, etc. Pair these speakers with a quality receiver and other quality components and I promise you, that you will not be disappointed.I wondered if I should have forked out the money for more expensive speakers or the next product line up from the Signature series. I am glad I saved my money because these things are absolutely fantastic.

A beautifull rich sound with clarity & power!
I've had the Polk S55s for almost 2 years now, and have intentionally waited to review them, to make sure I had a fair grasp of all the variables involved.I've set these polks up in 2 different listening environments, with varying sound responses but with reliably consistent performance. The polk s55 loudspeakers, when properly set up, in an almost equidistant triangle to the listening position and perhaps 18 inches from any wall boundary, offer a listening experience which is comparable to a high end listening experience. These polks are well made, perform extremely well and do so effortlessly, with clarity in the highs, mids and bass that is tight and powerful. The soundstage has depth, instruments have accurate pitch and tone, while voices have immense clarity and timbre. These polk S55s, in my humble opinion are a true value and I for one am very pleased with their performance. They handle jazz, hip hop, rap and Pop with equal agility and no sign of any lacking.I've compared these speakers to much higher end models of Bowers & Wilkins, Paradigm and others to name a few. The polks are right there with them..just a hair below in performance, for a fraction of the price. In summary, these polks represent what modern design technology and a company with pedigree and a lifetime of experience can create now..a phenomenally good performer at a significantly appreciable price point. Great for music and home theatre, these towers will not disappoint.

Incredible value
My everyday listening headphones are Sennheiser HD-598 cans. My desire is great sound within a medium-sized budget. I paid 600 for the pair. The Polk S55 speakers fit this perfectly. Let me tell you what I like about these speakers.Small foot print -- I had a small living room and didn't have a ton of space for large speakers. They're 12" deep, 9" wide, and 40" tall (approx.) This was perfect because they don't come out far into the room. And the speakers fit just beneath my light switch.Downward facing bass port -- Because I wanted to push these speakers right up against the wall, a rear facing bass port was a no-no.Deep bass -- I have a 10" subwoofer, but I haven't hooked it up yet. These speakers have a surprising amount of bass. Anything from Jazz to Techno has surprisingly well rounded bass.Good clarity -- Without even tweaking the EQ yet, I was surprised at the clarity in the sound. I'm powering these speakers with a fairly recent 50wpc Marantz receiver.Nice black walnut finish with rounded corners -- This is a classy looking speaker. While, I haven't spent a ton of time with this system yet, I haven't seen or heard any downsides to these speakers yet. I'll post back if I do find something I do like.If I had more space in my living room, I probably would have gotten the S60 speakers, but these are really quite good and fit my situation ideally.

Incredible Product.
Normally 1000$+ for the set, got for closer to 700 with tax. You can’t go wrong with these S55’s. connected with the right source and you would swear you’re at a private live performance. Paired with an RX-A880 Yamaha Aventage, Polk PS-505 Sub and Tidal Hi-Fi it will change the way you appreciate music in general. Probably the best investment I will ever make in my own listening pleasure. Thanks Polk!
