Q: Can my existing 7-wire 18 gauge sprinkler wire be used to control two modules and 12 zones, ie to avoid laying new wire under the driveway?

In order to run 12 zones you would need a minimum of 13 conductor wires in total, this can be in any grouping (1-5 conductor and 1-8 conductor or 1-13). Each zone gets one + and they can share the -. 18 gauge wire is the industry standard for residential. If this controller is replacing an old controller then as long as you purchase the modules needed to get 12 zones the wiring is the same as the old controller.

Q: Does this work with Google Home?

Have not tried Google Home. We have Alexa. Have not tried that with Rainbird yet.

Q: Can you buy this with just the controller box, the wifi, and just one module (I have a seven zone system)?

Yes, they are sold separately. When I purchased mine, all variations were available on Amazon. Otherwise, I’m sure you could just order each one separately (i.e. not as a package)—there was no cost savings by buying the bundle of products—just convenience.

Q: Are there instructions for winterization?

Mine is in the garage. I usually just unplug it for winter.
