High quality LCD display without DP1.2 support that can outperform its competitors in visual appearance.
The monitor quality is very nice. It appears to use the same AH-IPS panel as the Dell U2713h, but doesn't display the sharp pixelated appearance like Dell monitors. I also didn't notice any dead pixels with the NEC. There's a lot of software, a high quality LED backlight, and anti-glare added to rid the NEC monitor of a pixelated appearance and to help maximize its visual quality for print publications, graphic design, and photography. No color calibration software is included with this monitor, but I wasn't expecting any since this specific model number on NEC's website will tell you what to expect in the box. The fit and finish is exactly like their old fluorescent backlight model from 2009. Nothing changed and it's still very, very heavy, but it does a good job of venting heat at the top without distorting the color display of the LCD. Other cheaper monitors of this size have been known to do so.There is no information as to whether this monitor supports Displayport 1.2 or 1.1a, but through my own testing it appears it's only DP 1.1 capable. NEC's site doesn't appear to be fully updated for this new LED backlight model and most support searches on their site for this 272 model offer the driver and multiprofiler, which is good enough. All other search results refer to updating the old 271 model. My flatscreen was manufactured Oct 2013 and all lookups for newer firmware will only lead to the 271 model making me assume there are no updates after 1 year of being on the market. If you're looking for DP 1.2 firmware support forget about it and just use it as the last monitor in the chain when trying to daisy-chain your existing DP 1.2 monitors. This monitor was built to connect 2 separate computers to one monitor rather than a multiple monitor setup for one computer. If you need to setup multiple DP1.2 capable 272 monitors to one laptop like me then you'll have to use an external hub like the Matrox Triplehead2Go DP edition. Most desktop video cards already have two DP 1.2 ports and this won't be an issue for desktop users using high end video cards.Unless you're a publisher of a magazine, a hollywood post-production house, or a professional photographer I don't see why anyone would really need all the software bells and whistles included for an extra $500 compared to the $800 Dell U2713h. It's simply overkill even for computer aided drafter using solidworks. Of course, Dell and HP's horrible rabbit-hole tech support may also be the very reason you're looking into purchasing the NEC instead.Unfortunately I didn't look closely enough into the amazon seller of this item before purchasing. It's being sold on amazon by tekgalaxy.com whose address is listed in Nevada, but the bill of materials that came with the box states it was shipped to me by a company called Merchant Expo, LLC in Fontana, CA. The same exact address is used by a company called Tech-Data Corp. It appears Tekgalaxy might be a drop-shipper for Tech-Data whose headquartered in Clearwater FL with distribution warehouses across the US. Tech-Data appears to be a wholesale electronics distributor like CDW. This would explain the absurd refusal by tekgalaxy to pay for any shipping involved and add a 15% restocking fee even if you were shipped a faulty product. What led me to perform this research was the Owner's manual packed inside the NEC monitor box. It was written in Russian, Ukrainian, and some other Cyrillic language. Nothing was written in English. It also included power plugs for north america, the EU and the UK. (BTW it appears an assortment of plugs is normal, so don't fret it you read this). It wasn't until 6 months later when I was trying to test Displayport 1.2 Multi-stream Transport functionality and realized the paperwork that came with it was unreadable. I began to worry that I might be stuck with a gray market item that NEC will refuse to warrant even though I paid the full US retail price. Only time will tell and I'm just hoping it will last me another 18 months. My final opinion on the purchase of this monitor is that it's a fantastic monitor with some annoyances and I gave it 4 stars. I wanted to take away another star for the hidden drop shipping and russian reading material that I'll use to light up a barbecue or for an emergency when the toilet paper runs out. Since I am not a gamer and only perform software development, CAD, basic video editing, and watch itunes I can't attest to the color accuracy, but it has raving reviews. I would suggest anyone willing to pay this price to look for this model with the SpectraViewII calibrator included on amazon being sold by Adorama for the same price with free shipping.

Excellent for photo editing
These monitors are the best. Typical Japanese quality and reliability. Anyone concerned about color accuracy for photo editing should consider one of these NEC top of the range LCD monitors. The quality of the IPS panel, the quality of the construction, the feature set, and the ease of raising or lowering the screen are all top notch. This is my second NEC LCD monitor. The first one is a 21 inch model and has served me well for 6 years. And still, after every calibration the color accuracy and quality are only very slightly different from the factory setting, just as when first purchased. I just needed a bigger monitor with the higher quality (almost 100% Adobe RGB space), the latest display ports, USB, etc, and the new wider aspect ration of 16:9 - very useful for photo editing.I had been thinking about a replacement for a year in the hope that 4K monitors would get better and less expensive. But we will have to wait until NEC and Eizo come out with a 27 inch 4K model, and then will also have better video cards to drive them.

Easy setup and beautiful color
Easy setup and beautiful color! Use it with lightroom and adobe color spectrum. The colors match my screen to my printer perfectly every time. Could not ask for a better monitor. It is well worth the extra dollars it costs. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Great Monitor
Great monitor; better contrast and anti-reflective coating (less sparkly image) than previous CCFL models - definitely a step up. Very good screen uniformity. Highly recommended.I only wish they had a 28" 2560x1600 model as well...

Did not sound too bad on the phone
I bought this monitor in April 2014. At the beginning of 2015, it started already to show signs of malfunction: a green, sometimes magenta vertical line would display from time to time. By August 2015, the magenta line was permanently showing, so I decided to take advantage of the 4 year warranty offered by NEC on this monitor and phoned them. The lady was really cooperative and finally asked me to email photos of the monitor, showing the vertical line, and for helping them to check that the monitor was not damaged. Fair enough. On the same day, they emailed me back to confirm that they would proceed with an exchange, but I had to call them with a valid credit card information to hold as collateral in the case that the defective unit would not be returned. Fair enough.First surprise: speaking with another lady the next day to give my credit card info, I learned that I would not get a brand new unit, rather a refurbished one. Did not sound too bad on the phone, but now that I have the replacement monitor, it has plastic nicks on the right bottom corner. So I paid a small fortune for a brand new monitor and one year and four months later, I have a refurbished unit that is a bit damaged... The lady also told me that now that they had the credit card info, they would let me know by email when the replacement monitor would ship. They never did.I live in a condominium building. I also gave them the apartment number, but it was not put on the mailing label. Of course, the replacement unit, quickly sent through a parcel service in less than 48 hours, was delivered to the wrong apartment... Fortunately, I have honest neighbours, otherwise one would have got a free computer monitor... And not knowing that it was shipped, I could have wait several days before even realized it had been delivered to the wrong address. Fast service, but clumsy enough to have caused a serious mess...This computer monitor is the third one I have bought in my life (after an Apple display and a ViewSonic, and a few all-in-one computers in between) and is, by far, the most expensive I ever purchased (mainly for photo retouching and computer graphics) and yet, it’s the only one that has failed so quickly. The customer service at NEC has some shortcomings, so all things considered, I am rather disappointed by this purchase, even though the monitor has, no doubt, great image quality. But does it worth the money? I will see the reliability of this replacement unit, but I am quite convinced now that one can have a good image quality at better price and that I will never buy again a monitor at such a high price, especially if it is a NEC. It does not worth it.
