Reignited My Love for Minecraft
I have been so engulfed in non fiction, particularly history and I don't spend too much escaping to the wonderful world of fiction. I used to play minecraft when I was younger and enjoyed all of the wonderful memories. This book reignited my memories and made me want to play again, to enter into the world of creativity and challenge. I and friend starting playing and it's been great.I love the story had sparks emotion that I didn't expect.I will be enjoying the rest of the series!

Challenged my 8 year old and taught online courtesies
My 8-year old finished this in 5 days. He said it deserved 5 stars. The ending left you hanging a bit. I guess that leaves the option of a sequel open. He didn't notice the typos/edit errors, I noticed one confusing sentence in the first 6 pages or so that I read to him to prove the reading was not too challenging for him. I don't need literary perfection, just something that holds his interest and challenges him a little; it's getting harder to find books he'll really dig into when they don't have pictures or comics anymore, but this one worked. He said none of it scared him, I guess because he has so much experience with the game itself. Another one of the Minecraft novels also caught my eye, but in checking out the writing, the main character was criticizing his parents a lot - trying to stay away from that theme which is so prevalent in some of the kids books these days. Keeping kids positive about school, teachers, parents and family members is hard enough without the influence of books.

A fun and ingenious story generally well told, but with a disappointing number of grammatical and word-use/spelling mistakes
For avid Minecraft players in their teen and/or tween years, this ingenious Minecraft adventure novel by Mark Cheverton is a dream come true. Having read it with my 11-year old son, I can attest to the fact that it was an engaging and fun read, and it also conveyed a positive underlying message.I admire the author's inventiveness for using Minecraft as a setting for an adventure novel--real kudos there. I also think the overall plot and the characters were interesting, and that the story was generally well told. What disappointed me was the quality of the writing in a number of places. There were numerous instances of incomplete sentences, misspellings, words used incorrectly, and grammatical mistakes. As a parent, those things bothered me A LOT. I spend a lot of time and energy trying to teach my son good writing habits, and it doesn't help to reinforce those habits when he sees those kinds of egregious mistakes in a book he is reading. The only other criticism I have of the story is something that my son, an avid Minecraft player, pointed out--namely, there were several instances of the main character doing things in the game that a serious player might consider pretty 'dumb' (in terms of Minecraft expertise), and there were also some inconsistencies with the way in which the game actually works. But those things were certainly forgivable and not a major hindrance to our enjoyment of the story. We look forward to the next installment in the series and congratulate Mr. Cheverton on a brilliant idea and on a story well told.

Great story telling !!! Worth every minute
This book has a great story line, good lessons to learn, and excellent use of grammar. A must read!As a parent I know there are several minecraft books out there that are poorly written and do not have much of a story. It was so refreshing to see this book. Mark Cheverton executes wonderfully with an engaging storyline, proper use of grammar, nice use of vocabulary and teaching lessons pertaining to bullying and sacrifice. I highly recommend this for any reader. My sons love it and it has fueled their desire to be readers.

My 8 year old loved it
My 8 year old loved this book. He says its a great story. He "loves it," he says because it has action, adventure, and he liked that it was anti-griefing. Even though he is an avid reader, he usually sticks to comics or graphic novels. He had never had read a book this long before and I purchased this for him in hopes that he would read something outside of his comfort zone. His mother thought he would give up quickly, but instead he devoured the book and is eagerly waiting for the next installment.
