Are they black sidewall? Also what will the manufacturing date be if I purchase them now?

Yes! Black side wall on one side & white on opposite side. All tires have 4 numbers of date of manufacture: example: 22/21 means manufacture date 22 week of year 2921

why are these so expensive compared to the rest?

I do not know the reason that Michelin tires are more expensive. My experience has been over 20 years that they wear well. They perform as advertised. I have used them on sports cars, pickup trucks and class 8 diesel trucks and been extremely satisfied in all venues. Several of my family members also use them.
