Bought for energy efficiency, the manual timer and the stainless steel
Several months after first review ...Same great performance: Do clean it regularly to prevent deposits with a vinegar solution (most recently leftover pickle juice and a plastic scrubby). Has automatic shutoff if it runs out of water fortunately. Hard boiled eggs (smaller on mine - 9-10 minutes; larger - 11). This is the 'go to' for anything with hot milk, melted butter (use a small stainless pitcher which gets greasy in a small ceramic dish which doesn't) or hard boiled eggs. I use it occasionally for other things if heating a small amount (recently heated some chicken broth in a mug).I occasionally have to make sure the plug is fully plugged in if it doesn't turn on right away. It gets moved around - always nice to have a designated area. It's now on a power strip so I can let the timer wind down the last few minutes if I'm in a hurry and just want to shut the power off without unplugging it.I want it to last a long time so I try to make sure water from the steam on the cover drains back onto the tray. Have even started buying and using shiny dome covers for other pans/appliances after using this.---Initial review: With steam, you have to be really careful. Lift the lid straight up. I've already used higher containers than those provided and it is possible to spill things (and if you do, they may be quite hot).Use a pot holder/oven glove that protects your whole hand.If you don't like plastic for cooking, the poached egg tray would be a great divider for a drawer.>Five minutes ... a cup of heated milk which didn't burn to a pan on the stove (placed on top of the stainless steel egg insert).>Seven minutes (probably less) ... 2 scrambled eggs ... make sure you oil/grease the stainless steel pan before the eggs ... slide right out ... easy to heat some rolls with the remainder heat if want>Use the tine of a fork versus their poker at the end of their measuring cup for poking the ends of the 'to be hard-boiled' eggs prior to cooking ... seems safer and then you don't have to mess around covering the poker>Mega flexible for various small stainless steel containers, Corelle style cups, silicone cups, and even ceramic (I transfer things to cooler containers for handling) ... remember ... lift the lid straight up and protect your hand from the steam. I put everything on the egg tray.Likely will immediately have hard water deposits (where water gets hot/evaporates) ... clean off and keep clean right away to maintain performance/efficiency. ALWAYS check the water level prior to each use.Instructions: Do not turn timer off. Let it wind down if you want it to last a long time. The manual timer winds down even if it's unplugged so if the timer is still going and you want to turn the unit off, the best option is to unplug it.Have used it several times. Takes a few years to know about durability. Seems to be very well made and I really like the cover design (since you can put taller items in it IF you lift the cover straight up). I also use an Aroma Simply Stainless rice cooker with a steam basket a lot ... had to add a timer to that and the timer I use for that lacks the flexibility of this appliance (15 min., 30 min., etc.)As with all stainless inserts/covers and pans which are not electrical, it's good to wash them before use in hot and soapy water. With this item, it's possible to 'steam clean' it.

Works Very Well! Automatically powers off. Stainless steel cooking surfaces, not plastic!
Does a wonderful job cooking eggs easily! The power shuts off via a timer that you control. This shut-off means your water does not boil completely out of the unit if you add a little extra water. This makes cleaning much easier because you can simply tip the excess water out of the basis instead of scrubbing all that salt residue and burnt smell out of the basin as required with other brands we have used in the past. The top benefit of this unit is that most included cooking surfaces are stainless steel, so you won't be getting those hot plastics in your cooked eggs. Apparently, most brands have you cooking eggs on plastic surfaces that get hot, which I hear is unhealthy. Just an FYI.

Best on Amazon…
After researching every egg cooker on Amazon, this Oroton egg cooker checked nearly all the boxes for me. I believe in buying good tools, so I usually do my homework in finding the best for me - my useage and budget. On the Pro side of things:• All stainless steel interior, rack and omelet tray (except for the plastic poaching tray - BPA free, they say).• An actual manual timer (not electronic), that I can control myself with a single (loud enough), ding to let me know the cycle is complete.• An indicator light letting me know it’s on or off.• All lightweight components. The cord disconnects from the unit for better storage. • All parts fit inside with the cover in place for easier storage.• Auto shut-off, if the internal tray of water boils away, whether on schedule or not. The manual timer will still proceed if there’s time left, but the unit will be off.• Large capacity - 9 eggs hard boiled! 5 eggs poached. The cons:• The omelet tray is small - only one or two eggs max.• The handle on top to open the unit is an odd design, meant to dissipate heat I’m sure, but it does not always inspire stability in your hand when trying to use it. It’s a stiff plastic that may be susceptible to breakage if dropped. It does add to the cuteness factor, though.• The printed text on the unit should be printed in a brighter white color, rather than the off white that it is now. The numbers are difficult to see, especially in the shadows of the kitchen. The pointer on the timer knob does not have a painted line on it either, just an indent.• The feet of the base unit are not rubber. They are a hard foam type material, which does not grip the counter top all that well. The unit will slide around pretty easily. The first time I used the cooker, I placed 3 eggs inside, followed directions in the manual (gave it 12 mins), and they came out nearly perfect. The centers of each yoke were a tiny bit less cooked (photo) than the rest of the yoke - no biggie. I think15 minutes would have been better. Of course I put them in ice water to arrest the cooking cycle once the bell rang, maybe I could have let them sit just bit before placing them in the cold water. The omelet tray needs to be oiled before placing your eggs inside (unfortunately). I so wanted to be able to simply mix my eggs in the tray, cook and eat. Nope. The tray needs to be oiled (logically), to prevent sticking. I thought I’d try it anyway. The eggs became light and fluffy right at the end of cooking. They rose up, full of air and descended as I lifted the cover off the unit. They too were done perfectly I’d say.The unit consumes 345 watts/2.9 amps according to my Kill-A-Watt meter. It’s only a matter of about 2 minutes before you hear the water boiling. That 345 came down by a couple once the time got below 5 minutes. I think ideally, you should use distilled water with this unit to make cleaning easier, but you don’t have to. Any staining can be removed by using a little vinegar in a little water, then rubbed out.The manual comes with a useful graphic (photo) showing ideal starting times for the various egg styles. The timer works in 5 minute increments, so you’re really “ballparking” the timing anyway. It also provides some tips on making eggs without using the included egg poker, saying that it is not always necessary (soak them 1st) to pierce the tops (large end), in order to achieve great results. I just poke ‘em. One time using their poker, when I pierced the top, the shell cracked. I cooked it anyway and it came out fine. Now I use a push pin - easy to hold, thinner needle works great.I originally purchased this for myself, but when I brought it over to my mom’s, she quickly became enamored with it saying, “it even looks cute on the counter”. She raved at how perfect the yokes were, even the whites impressed her. So, I let her keep that one while I ordered a second one for myself.I’m thoroughly satisfied (except for the cons), with this egg cooker. It pretty much looks and performs as I expected. I sure hope it lasts for a long time - no obvious reason why it shouldn’t.

Quit working.
Thought I was going to love this, all stainless steel in and around food, but it will not make hard boiled eggs when they are refrigerator cold or they will explode so u have to wait for them to warm up, also the piercer they give u to put a hole in the end does more than just puts a little hole in it, and now after only 4 uses it has quit working and I am past the 30 window. Waste of money.
