Q: When the magnet is moved away, will the switch open or close ? Previous answers are not all in agreement.

This is not rocket science people. When the magnet is NOT near the switch, the switch is Open (in other words off - not conducting electricity). This is called normally open - a standard electrical term. When the magnet is near the switch, the switch closes and conducts electricity. The confusion is that when talking about circuits or zones in an alarm system, "normal" indicates the normal state of the opening being protected - the normal state means the door or window is closed (and therefore the magnet is near). So in alarm lingo, the same switch is called the opposite (normally closed). Confusing, no doubt. But it's the same switch - the switch completes the circuit ONLY when the magnet is near. When the magnet is removed (the door or window is opened), the circuit opens (electricity stops flowing) and the alarm goes off.

Q: Are recessed door sensors like this interchangeable? Could I swap a 944 with this 951? Thanks!

Although I am not familiar with the 944 sensor, I suspect that they all work the same. Although it may not be clear in the spec sheets or description, the 951 switch closes when the magnet moves away from it. That makes it a normally closed switch (because the magnet is the activator, it's normal or static condition is closed. By moving the magnet close, it opens the switch). It sounds confusing, sort of backwards, but just remember that it takes a magnet near the switch to open it. Good luck!

Magnets should work if you just use the magnets with wireless sensors

Q: Could I use this for the door in my RV?

You could. Problem is you center the magnet in the door and the wired sensor would be centered in the wall jam fishing the wires through the RV would be charging. This type of system is rewired during a new build.
