Lovely coffee table book
Beautiful looking book, but in all honestly best left on the coffee table.I was so excited to purchase this book as had seen an extract in Love Embroidery magazine, so pre-ordered.Initially, you open the book and you fall in love with the alphabets, and start imagining what words and items you can produce for friends and family, but when you start looking at putting the letters together then you find the issues. The author is French, and wrote the book aimed at a French audience, and personally I think that if the alphabet introductions had been reviewed, and tweaked, for the audience, it would’ve come across better. The firstly glaringly obvious mistake is that there is no “d” in the alphabet on 84.Pages 84 and 85 have two “plain” alphabets, which you assume, on first glance, you can mix and match with the “prettier” alphabets, but find you can’t. Eg, which “plain” alphabet would go with “The World of Creepy-Crawlies”, “Blue Flower” or “Sakura”, to name only a few.

Beautiful
Love this lady's work and have every book she has published. Her work is different than standard cross stitch and makes wonderful use of negative space. Lovely to work.

A really beautiful book
If like me, Cross stitching is your passion then you will just love Cross Stitch Alphabets.Helene Le Berre has given us 14 alphabets to cross stitch, and the inscription on the Preface is just perfect.Visually they are just beautiful. Delicate and pretty, they can be added to many of your projects or make stunning samplers to be kept as heirlooms or given as gifts.I loved the presentation of this book.Set into sections of Animals, Plants and Flora, the accompanying writings are interesting and informative. I loved that recipes have been included, a Mushroom Risotto and a very delicious Carrot Cake, along with the many projects that can be easily completed by all levels of sewists. The projects all have a step by step instructions, also techniques and advice have it's own section. The cross stitch charts are colour coded, easy to follow and just gorgeous. Thread used by Helene Le Berre is DMC.I used a few left over threads from my other projects and 14 count navy aida. I found these alphabets used so little threads for each letter, they are perfect to use up any anoying single strands.I hope you love this book as much as I do and hope you are inspired to create something beautiful.Happy Stitching x
