Great quality product
Made in germany and you can tell it by just the look, feel, and the way it snaps into place. It is super compact and portable. Easily carry it anywhere.Best thing: You get Two bases incase one goes bad of you loose it. The tops for the ear and the eye exams can be interchanged with any base.Takes 2 AA batteries for each base, lasts forever.just make sure to get the room really dark for a good fundoscopy examination.I was able to use it to examine all structures for the inner eye exams.. Recommended!

Super tool for the money!
I really enjoy using this product. It is lightweight and portable. The light sources are very bright. It would be nice if the light could be reduced in the ophthalmoscope, but it is acceptable as is. The only other minor issue i have is that it is not interchangeable with the disposable otoscope speculums used in most facilities (welch allyn brand). If you want the speculum to fit on the unit and not slip off, it needs to be purchased from Riester. Other than that, it is a great set and i would buy again.

Riester Ri-Mini Otoscope/Ophthalmoscope Kit
Great quality set for the price. Otoscope is perfect, really easy to visualize TM. Accepts standard speculum, which is nice when you run out of the supplied ones. The ophthalmoscope is not as bright as the Welch-Allyn portable kits or wall-mounts, but serves its purpose just fine. I was able to visualize the optic disc in a fairly-bright room. Since it's a pocket kit, ergonomics on the ophthalmoscope aren't as nice as on a larger set (it's harder to manipulate the diopter wheels since it's smaller, but with some practice, it becomes manageable).I gave it a 5/5 because for a pocket kit, it's top-notch.

Ok if you want a cheap set
Not bad for the price, but you get what you pay for. Compared to the more expensive sets from Welch-Allyn and others, these have fairly dim lighting and narrow field of view. Also, the otoscope cannot take standard Welch-Allyn tips that you find in every doctor's office in the world, so you'll have to order your own. I would say adequate for a medical student starting out (that's me), but not great for serious practice.

Great for any profession who what's a set at home ...
Great for any profession who wants a set at home for all the medical issues that arise in the course of parenthood. For example, my 2 year recently thought it would be interesting to see how far she could stuff pieces of toilet paper up her nose was the most recent time this set came in handy. Good construction for infrequent use. If you are looking for something to use daily, I would recommend getting a nicer set.

Not sufficient for a medical student
I bought this set, and I was not able to make out any features in the eye. My attending tried and had the same issue. I use a Welch-Allen now.

Functional, but not superior
It works, and it's cheap. It doesn't appear very durable... it's almost like a toy. But if all you need is a working tool, this fits the bill. And at the price, you can afford a second one if it breaks.
