A nice air filter
I bought the JET AFS-1000B to use in my basement. This room serves as a band rehearsal area as well as a workshop for various projects that sometimes involve the use of power tools and making dust.I mounted the unit using the supplied hardware along with S hooks and some screw eyes from the lumber yard. Mounting it to the underside of the floor joists took all of about 15 minutes and after plugging it in I was up and running. From what I've read in other reviews Jet must have improved their packaging because my unit arrived without a dent or scratch and that shipping was free from Amazon(it arrived in about 3 days) I had to remove the filters in order to take out the packing material that was put inside to hold the motor during shipping. The air filtration machine moves a LOT of air, much more than I expected and it moves the air around in the whole basement even while running on low, you can feel it. It's not all that noisy especially when you consider how much air it's moving through the filters.Speaking of filters this machine comes with an internal 1 micron bag filter and a flat panel pre filter(seen from outside). It takes standard size filters so it would be very easy to install some other type of filter that you could use to remove allergens, smoke, fumes, etc from the air. I think is a great feature and it also keeps you from being locked in to buying any high priced or unique replacement filters. The remote control works good and it makes it easy to control the unit from some distance across the room. Having the filter mounted from the ceiling makes it about impossible to reach the controls without using a stool so the remote is a necessity in my installation. The Jet AFS-1000B is a welcome addition to my house and something I wish I would have had a long time ago when we were doing some home improvement projects including drywall where it would have really helped to remove the dust we generated.

A breath of Fresh air
The unit arrived in excellent condition and was well packaged by the manufacturer. Set up was easy and only required some basic wrenches to attach the four brackets as I was going to mount directly to floor joist 8' above my head in the cellar. The center hole of the brackets fit perfectly in the center of the joist spaced 16" on center. I mounted the unit to two joist spaced 32" apart as they happened to be running in the correct direction perpendicular to airflow. I have an outlet mounted near to the ceiling where I plugged the unit in and powered it up. I find the low setting to be adequate to filter air and the timed setting is an excellent feature that allows me to leave the workshop area and leave the unit running at a higher speed to clean up any residual dust. The area I'm filtering is my 1068 square food basement where I have woodworking tools concentrated to one part of the large room. The unit is placed in the middle of the area where the power equipment (saws, sanders, router, drill press, etc.) are located. (not the middle of the room but the middle of the power equipment section of the large room). I do not have much use for the Remote as I can easily reach up and use the controls. The filters are very easy to access and service. The unit is fairly quiet and no vibration can be felt on the (wood) floor above it (it does not vibrate as it is solidly built). I feel better knowing that most of the "bad" particulate floating around the room is absorbed into this unit while it is running. A must for any woodshop.

As another reviewer said...Marital Bliss
My wife said I needed to do something about the sawdust I create in the basement shop from time to time. OK, time to shop for ambient air cleaners as a ducted dust collection system in down the road.I have a relatively large 30' x 30' basement shop with a low 8' ceiling. The low ceiling height required that I find something I can hang directly from the floor joists via Unistrut and still not worry about smacking my head on. I was originally looking at Jet's next model up from this unit; but the ceiling height would not allow it, so for the price of the next model up the line, I bought two of these air cleaners and got a few extra CFM's to boot.I mounted one near the table saw, and the other one approximately 20' away over the chop saw. Remember, these units pick up the fine dust that wafts through the air. These units snag the fine mist of dust particles quite nicely, and so far I use both on the low speed setting. They are relatively quiet and balanced well, which minimizes the noise and vibration felt through the floor joists upstairs. With both units running on low, I can hang a disposable dust mask from my drill press table elevation handle, which is approximately half way between the air cleaners and I can see the dust mask moving oh so slightly from the air circulation. Since the air cleaner exhaust is pointed away from the drill press, the dust mask is not moving from a direct stream of exhaust air.Jet did a nice job of finishing the cabinet inside and out, which is an often over looked item by most manufacturers (DeWalt, are you listening?) these days. The remote control works with both units, so if I misplace one remote I can use another to control the air cleaner. Of course I can reach up and control unit at the panel if need be. This is a nice touch to have the remotes use the same frequency and control codes.Although most of my work is metal work, I use these air cleaners when I'm grinding metal too. Although they aren't meant to be used in spray paint applications, I do turn them on when I do what little spray painting via aerosol can. I also use them when I break out the small Berz-O-Matic Oxy-MAPP gas torch to pick up the airborne soot caused by the MAPP gas before the oxygen is turned on.With a mildly asthmatic wife, I haven't heard one complaint about my shop activities stinking up the basement from her. Now I just need to soundproof the shop or better yet, construct an outbuilding to soothe my wife's aching ears from the band-saw and grinder. As another reviewer said about these air cleaners being marital bliss, I wholeheartedly concur.
