This is my second one for patio in Texas heat! Simply the best for the money.
I bought my first Coolaroo last spring to replace a worn out canvass umbrella. I have enjoyed it so much I bought a second one this spring. It gets really hot in the summer here and trying to enjoy the patio with limited shade we have been using market umbrellas made of other materials. Probided shade but it seemed like we were still baking under the heat. These Coolaroo umbrellas are made of a unique fabric that breezes easily penetrate yet block most of the suns rays. Also the 11 ft diameter provides more shade for longer periods as the sun makes it's scorching hours across the sky.My first one is just over 1 year old and survived an unexpected ice storm we accidentally left it open position under 3 inches of ice and snow. The fabric stretched but did not tear and returned to its original shape once the ice melted. My older heavy canvass brand X umbrella did not fare so well and the center pole broke under the ice load and the whole thing fell over into the pool. While I recommend closing the Coolaroo during severe weather, the durability, quality and ease of use convinced me that I would buy a second one this spring. There is also a tilt feature, Nice to have if you are BBQ ing and want shade simply tilt at an angle to provide shade while cooking yet clear of the heat from the BBQ .This is the best umbrella of its kind I have ever used. Set up is very easy and the instructions that come with intuitively illustrative. I am over 50, female and I had the unit set up and open with no assistance in 10 minutes. Also like it is made in USA!!

chinese quality control - none
The solicitation did not give the diameter of the pole, it was larger that the normal umbrella pole and did not fit thru the lower opening in my patio table. the product was shipped with a broken crank, would not go up or down. another example of chinese products with absolutely NO quality control, and changing designs with total disregard as to why some things were standardized. this was the second coolaroo that i have purchased, the first one was damaged in a wind storm, the first one was made in australia, and was the best umbrella i have ever had, the chinese version was the worst experience that i have ever had.

Great umbrella, needs a compatible base
The material type was odd to me initially when I pulled it out of the package, but once I got it fully setup, it actually provided the shade I was looking for. I also like the style of the umbrella. I struggled however to find a compatible umbrella base to pair with this. Because it is such a top heavy umbrella it really needs a slightly taller slightly wider base. I could not find a decent one on amazon or in my general online search. I have a base now, the umbrella has tipped over once, but only when I had the umbrella locked in tilt mode. Besides that one hiccup I am happy with the umbrella purchase.

Now Were Talking...This Is an Umbrella
I had just one word when I opened the box...WOW. Large, high quality, the poles actually fit my tables despite being 11 foot umbrellas. Beautiful. Now...some complain that it is a "vented" or should I say more of a woven fabric. Therefore, it is a sun screen only. They do NOT function as protection from the rain. Water flows right through the fabric. To some this may be a bad thing. For me, a Sun Screen that makes the patio cooler...without making it dark is nice. Also, my plants love it. Traditional umbrellas this size produced so much shade that my sun loving flowers...that are still delicate and need shade just not darkness...would either die from sun, or not blossom from too much shade. These things work great. The plants get all the sun they need, yet they do not die from direct sunlight burning their delicate pedals and leaves. For the humans, it is nice to have light...but be cool by having indirect sunlight instead. I love them. I recommend them. I get lots of compliments about them. They are beautiful...and of good quality. Just one example. Cheaper China umbrellas...open them up and you will see fragments of "stitching" hanging loose in areas around the fabric seams. Not so here. The seamstress made sure these things were produced with quality stitching. My only complaint is the tilt. One angle only. If that is too much...too bad. Yuck. Otherwise...fantastic.

Good, but watch out for the tilt mechanism
Update: Just delivered, and as others have saiid, the pole diameter is not the same (it is bigger diameter, so the base for the old one does not fit.) There is no info on the pole diameter in the description, nor on the box.Bought in 2009, and just bought a replacement. Worked well and I love the size and fabric (monolon poly weave that lets filtered light and air in (and rain.) It is for shade. The tilt mechanism, which we really never used, broke, which prompted the replacement. Wish they had one that didnt have that mechanism, which appears to be the Achilles heal, from what other reviewers are experiencing. I guess 6 seasons in New England is not so bad, so we are replacing in-kind.

Another great Coolaroo Product
We lost two trees in our west facing backyard. This 11 foot umbrella provides shade and heat reduction just as advertised. We have it on a rolling umbrella base so that we can move it as needed when our afternoons get hot. For two years, we've used a Coolaroo 6 foot roller shade in another part of the yard. It looks stylish and is easy to clean so we knew the addition of the Coolaroo Umbrella would resolve our dilemma. The two look wonderful together. Coolaroo provides excellent quality products at a very fair price. The pole is sturdy, was easy to set up and it is easy to tilt. With an umbrella this size you need a substantial "base" for the best stability. We miss our trees, but this umbrella will be just fine as a replacement.
