Forget your meat hammer. Buy this.
Saw an item like this on an Alton Brown cooking show, before he got all pretentious. I'll never use a meat hammer again. This item tenderizes like a champ, while leaving your meat look like meat instead of road kill someone skid across. Used on chicken breast to make chicken fried chicken and the chicken was great. Tender. Juicy. Yummy. Get some top round cut to a 1/2 inch, stab your meat down to about a quarter inch and you'll never buy cube steak again.Pay attention though...works very well when unintentionally used on fingers as well, though should NOT be used as a means to get your sample for testing blood sugar. My inadvertent exsanguination reflects negatively on my inattention while using 48 ultra sharp blades in proximity to my fingers. It's no fault of the meat slayer. LOL

So glad I bought this.
My first test was with a half a sirloin steak (12 oz), and it tenderized very well and the steakhouse marinade soaked through the entire steak, not just the surface. The oven broiled result was an incredibly delicious and tender experience. I have no problem cooking steak to 145°F interior for bacteria control, as I like my steak "just done". Next time, the sirloin goes on the bbq pit. I wouldn't use this on prime rib or t-bone, but the tenderized sirloin just made the more expensive cuts obsolete in my book. I will eventually try this on cheaper cuts for which it was designed, but for now, I have a new favorite. The operation was easy, the spring tension of the guard was not too strong. Clean up with a stiff plastic brush and soap was quick and very easy, the guard coming off and going back on very smoothly. For the price, this is a great tool for the kitchen that should not be overlooked.

AMAZING, FAN-TABULOUS, INDISPENSABLE!!!
The BEST kitchen product I've ever purchased, worth 2x as much as I paid for it... It works on steaks, chuck roasts, chicken breasts, pork roasts, pork chops, ham... any kind of meat is better with this! It's super sharp (don't be stupid like me and extract the blades to touch them, or you're in for a good bloody finger prick!), but safety-designed to keep you from injuring yourself (unless you do the foolish "test" I mentioned previously in the parentheses). I'm honestly giving this as my Christmas gifts to all my friends who cook... and they're going to be as thrilled as I am. Save your old steel tenderizing hammer for bandits and burglars.... THIS is the ultimate kitchen tool!

Works extremely well...............but
Bought this after reading the reviews. Got to try it on two beautiful NY strips that I had managed to save up for for 3 months. The operation of this unit is a no-brainer. Remove the plastic cover, place the base over the area to be pierced by the tenderizing blades, and push down. Repeat until the total area of the piece has been pierced. Turn the item over and repeat. Simple, direct and it works very well. BUT...then I went to clean the unit. There are to "pins" on either side of the base. You have to have the base a little bit pushed in to pull these pins out. The base is held in place by these pins thus this action. What I noticed is that it takes some amount of pressure to press the base towards the handle. You don't have a lot of room to put your fingers because if you think you can use the whole base, think again. When you depress the base, the blades come thru the base as they are supposed to. And these blades are somewhat rigid, very pointed and very sharp. With these blades now exposed, I was able to clean them by shaking them in soapy water, then rinsing, and then shaking to get the excess water out. Cleaning was a breeze. But my first thought is that this is a dangerous kitchen tool and obviously you DO NOT want your kids playing with it. It is designed to pierce meat anywhere from a half inch to 2 inches plus. Conversely, this item may be considered no more dangerous that your kitchen knives, peeler, or skewers. Once dry, you reverse the process: place the base back in position (the piercing blades fit in the holes), watching your fingers, you press down (you DO have to use both hands), and then press the pins into the base. The unit is ready to use. Note: the cutting blades are not exposed UNTIL you place them on the item you want pierced and then press down. When you release pressure, the blades are retracted. Once re-connected, I placed the clear plastic over the base of the unit. This cover provides good protection for storage. Instructions showing the dismantling of the unit for cleaning are on the box the unit came in and are somewhat small. As for results? Works as advertised and tenderized those NY steaks beautifully. I give it 4 stars as it probably is the best tenderizer I've ever used but take one star away because of the CAUTIONARY note highlighting the real potential of one piercing their fingers dismantling the unit for cleaning. Would I buy it again? Probably it is well made and does what it is supposed to do. Recommend? Yes, but to seasoned cooks. Someone who is an occasional use type cook might find this a bit above their league.

Works well and very sturdy!
Used the device for the first time today. It worked really well. It was larger than I thought so it didn't take quite as much time as I thought it was going to get all of the front and back sides of the meat tenderized before I put on my dry rub. I am anxious to see how the meat turns out. People say this is much better than the old mallet style beater which tends to rip the meat.

Good tool but a pain to clean!
This tenderize the meat very well but then when it comes time for cleaning, it's quite a hassle to clean between the pins. Hosing down the pins with hot water is all I can do at this point. Anyone with suggestions on how to clean this?

LOVE THIS TENDERIZER
Oh YEAH! This is what you need in your kitchen. We eat a lot of tri-tip, flank steak (aka flap meat), filet's and even chuck roast. We use our traeger for our meats and with this we don't even have to marinade. Just salt and season right before we put on the grill. The meat is so juicy and tender. We've tried so many tenderizing methods and this was by far above and beyond all others. Get this for you and your fellow meat lovers.

Needs a lot of pressure, but great for marinating
This is a good tenderizer! It requires quite a bit of pressure on the meat, but the pins are sharp and they create great pores in the meat for marinating.

It works perfectly and is as advertised.
I'd buy again.
