Not worth buying
Like the other 1 star reviewers, this has patterns from the internet, for free. Just look around. None of these can be made in a day. Several don't even have full pictures because it looks like the "designer" tried to put in original work and couldn't complete the afghans in a day for this book. The other pictures are all over the internet with links to free pictures. Looks like she "borrowed" the pictures. If it's ever offered free, don't even get it then. Seriously.

FINALLY!!
After downloading many, many books on crocheting, I finally, what my Father would say, hit pay dirt! This book has what about 95% of the other books don't have--photos! (I don't know, does it cost extra to insert photos in a book that is published on Amazon?)Ms. Brown has included enough of each element of crochet needed to make this book of value to everyone who is just above beginner to experienced crochet. And of course, there are the pictures! She has included a section at the beginning of the book for reviewing the basics of crocheting which is a nice reference for those who have been crocheting any length of time. Ah, pictures!Emma has included a very nice selection of patterns from baby to king size to holiday-themed afghans. These patterns include an assortment is stitches, including Tunesian and Broomstick. There is really something for everyone in this book. And there are pictures! Oh, my!!You can feel confident in getting this book. I really don't think you'll be disappointed!Oh, did I tell you about the pictures!?!Have fun with this book--I did!Monica Brown

Save your money
The cover afghan picture is not in the book. Extremely simple patterns and photos etc. But really got my goat was that in the index it lists advanced patterns. I went to the page and there is a simple direction for getting started and an Internet address for a Red Heart pattern! No pattern in the book!

Crochet patterns and techniques
I ordered the book because while I've crocheted simple things like pot holders before, I've never made anything like an afghan. The crochet patterns are easy to follow, and the glossary of terms in the back is really helpful. I've always been intimidated by the language they use, but this book does an excellent job of explaining the stitches and terms used. There are also a ton of YouTube videos embedded in it, which was nice. If you're new to crocheting afghans or crocheting in general, it has a really thorough overview of yarns and hook types at the beginning. I started working on a granny stitch afghan this morning and it's coming together really well. One or two pictures in the beginning where it teaches you how to start a chain were out of order, but it was easy enough to figure out with the video and written instructions.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!
I would give it 10 stars. I can knit great and taught myself years ago but I am a crochet dunce.I decided I wanted to crochet afghans for my 4 grand daughters and it didn't take me long to review a bunch of crochet how to books. (I am going to review all of them that I purchased or received in return for giving an honest review. This book is excellent, even I can learn to crochet using Emma Browns books. Excellent book! it includes a link to watch a You Tube video for every to learn every stitch and every pattern she teaches. For every stitch or pattern, there is a written instruction, a video and drawings. ( I included a snapshot of these). I especially like that Emma Brown shows how to do advanced stitches for instance Shell borders, how to make ridges, Picot stitches and then afghan patterns. Well organized, easy to understand all verbal instructions, videos, pictures and written instructions. I love the 22 Afghan patterns, so many varieties are included. Absolutely terrific book. I received a free copy of this book and my review is definitely honest, I love it!

Probably the Most Comprehensive Crochet Instructions
I've ever seen! I've been crocheting for over 45 years and have never seen a book that covers so much in so little space. I guess it helps to have video links to help. However, everything you need to know is covered. Hooks, yarns, how to read directions, and clear shots of how to do the stitches. Most books have drawings (if that) this one has pictures of a real person, holding a real hook, clearly demonstrating! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone who wants to learn how to crochet without bad habits that can take years to unlearn, this is an excellent start!

I've been crocheting since 1970 and I learned a lot from Emma Brown!
I've been crocheting since 1970 and I learned a lot from reading this book! My late mother-in-law taught me the basics stitches of how to "tie knots in thread" during the last three months of my first pregnancy. It was a great way to help pass the time. In turn, I taught others the basics. I've made afghans, Christmas tree skirts, and a myriad of other crocheted items over the last forty+ years. I still crochet a new afghan each year during the winter. This book offers many new ideas and pattern choices with detailed instructions that I am anxious to try. I love the way the author, Emma Brown, gave clear, wonderful illustrations and also links to YouTube videos where the reader can watch instructions. Being a very visual person, seeing something always helps me to better understand. I finally learned how to change yarn color without being obvious. lol I highly recommend this book to beginners or experienced crocheters. Emma Brown has much to teach and, if you're like me, there's always something new to learn. Excellent, simply excellent.

Avoid
This is total rubbish! The instructions make no sense whatsoever. I am sure the pictures are in the wrong following order and that there are steps missing. When I clicked to go to the you tube video, it kept coming up with the dictionary and saying the words are not supported in my language (English!). When I finally managed to get on to it, it had no resemblance whatsoever to the instructions in the book. Tried following various instructions in the book, but it is the same story for them all. I am an experienced knitter and am used to following instructions. I also know the basics of crochet, but this made no sense whatsoever. Don't waste your time on this one.

Great book for crocheting beginners
The book serves as a wonderful beginners’ guide for crochet afghans. All the instructions are clear, well presented and easy to follow; pictures made perfect sense and assisted in the process greatly. The images could be improved though, but still I was able to understand and follow most of thepatterns described.I’m happy with this purchase, can’t wait to start on the advanced afghan patterns. Once again, thankyou Emma Brown for a great tutorial on crocheting.

Blurry and uninspiring.
Really bad book! The photos are all in black and white and are very blurry. I bought it because I liked the pattern on the front and wanted to try it out. As far as I could tell the pattern isn't included in the book (yes, the photos are that blurry!). I returned it. Only contains very basic patterns that you can find for free on internet pattern sites.

Good book as an introduction to crochet
I found this book very easy to follow and it included some interesting projects. The links to demonstration videos was an appreciated bonus. I'm now well into my first project from the book.
