Audubon: Birds of America: Postcard Colouring Book (Multilingual Edition) (English and German Edition)

the images in this postcard book are naturally drawn and lovely, but many of their features, and some of the pages entirely, are too small to work within. I am seeing this problem in general, in these postcard books (though the Van Gogh postcards book is a bit better, with the William Morris being the worst of the bunch, as far as sizing goes only--the art, like that of all of the pepin books, is quite nice). pepin has produced some lovely full sized coloring books, but the printing work of their postcard sized books does not seem to have been checked by the publisher. there will be a number of images in this book that you will be able to color, with a bit of work and the proper tools, but I do not recommend any of these postcard books, in general, to anyone with vision problems, which I am currently finding myself facing. pepin's full size coloring books are lovely to work in, and I recommend them without reservation. I own Still Life Bouquets, of which I ordered a second copy for a friend, as well as the Japanese and Turkish Designs books. I recommend them all, specially the Still Life Bouquet book. The postcards are very small, so not too big of a time commitment to color them. If you google the name of the bird under Audubon images you can see the coloring for the outline of the bird. The downsides are: the image outlines are very fine & faint. I think it would be nearly impossible to use watercolors abd brushes with them. Even colored pencils would be a stretch. I used finelineer .03 mil pens & even those were difficult to do cleanly. I think these are a bit on the pricey side for what they are. I had hoped to offer these in our Supporters shop for a bird refuge but I don't think they would be suitable for kids.

Postcards are well done, but the detail of many of the images will be difficult to paint. It would be better suited to a very fine point pen. The lines in some areas are also so pale that this would be really difficult for people with visual issues. These images work well in the full-size coloring/painting book, but some of them should have been changed for simpler images to work well with the very small format.

Love these Post Cards! Stick them in your briefcase or purse for those times when you just need a mental break!! Just the right size for travel, and they certainly allow you to enjoy coloring them in with your favorite pencils, or pens. Love all the art designs.

Very high quality coloring post card book on watercolor paper. Lines delineating color areas and the bird's anatomy are light gray but very easy to see. You'll probably have to use very small brushes with watercolors to achieve the detail shown on the cover. Not sure how colored pencils or blendable markers would work on such a small format.

Not enough birds can be colored because of the sketch-like quality.

The pictures are very small and can't be colored even with a fine line pen.

Es handelt sich um 20 einseitig bedruckte Malseiten in Postkartenformat. Sehr dickes Aquarellpapier, das off-white daherkommt, offensichtlich natürlich für Aquarellfarben geeignet. Aufgrund des Postkartenformats sind so manche Details tatsächlich sehr klein. Das lädt geradezu dazu ein, wahre Mixmedium-Festivals zu feiern, für die größeren Flächen Wasserfarben und für die fitzeligen den Buntstift, den Fineliner etc. Ich sehe diese kleinen Kunstwerke als wunderbare Übungsflächen, um sich mit neuen Malmedien bekannt zu machen und bereits vorhandene Techniken zu verfeinern. Die filigranen, in grau gehaltenen Linien sind dazu gedacht, das ausgemalte Gesamtkunstwerk am Ende nicht zu stören, ja möglichst nach dem Ausmalen nicht mehr in Erscheinung zu treten. Den typischen Malbuchenthusiasten werden diese Art von Linien womöglich nicht erfreuen. Den untypischen Malbuchkonsumenten, der seine künstlerischen Fähigkeiten erweitern möchte, werden sie freuen, den echten Künstler sowieso.Was die Auswahl der Motive betrifft, so sind diese exquisit. Für die Sujets des Malbüchleins sind hervorragende Ausschnitte und Bildkompositionen aus den Original-Studien gewählt worden. Die naturalistischen Studien entstammen den - vor allem in den USA - bekannten Aquarellen des Ornithologen und Zeichners John James Audubon. Auf den Rückseiten der Bildchen finden sich jeweils die Bezeichnungen der abgebildeten Vögel, also entweder man legt sich direkt die unter dem gleichnamigen Titel dieses Malbüchleins erhältliche Ausgabe der Original-Sammlung zu oder man stöbert einfach im Internet nach den entsprechenden Vögeln, um Inspirationen zu finden.Fazit: € 9,77 für ein 20seitiges Postkartenbuch mag viel erscheinen, aber meiner Meinung nach stimmt hier das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. Die Papierqualität ist herausragend. Die Zusammenstellung der Motive ergibt einen wunderschönen Mix. Was die Motive angeht, so sollte man sich über deren geringe Größe nicht ärgern, denn schließlich weiß man ja, wenn man solch ein postkartengroßes Malbüchlein erwirbt, dass die Bildausschnitte natürlich klein ausfallen, aber mit Wasserfarben UND div. anderen Malmedien sollten wunderbare kleine Kunstwerke gelingen. Daher 5 anspruchsvolle Sterne!

Wenn man nur eine Postkarte zum ausmalen sucht mag dieses Ding ganz ok sein - vielleicht habe ich auch ein schlecht geratenes Exemplar erwischt.Ich habe das Produkt bestellt WEIL es Motive von Audubon zeigt.Die Bilder sind von Audubon, aber sie sind nicht komplett. Es mag noch angehen, dass Pflanzenteile abgeschnitten werden, aber es werden Schnäbel, Köpfe, Schwänze und Flügel abgesäbelt. Aus einigen Bildern wurden Ausschnitte gewählt, aber die Wahl des Ausschnitts ist dann ziemlich unmotiviert.Für die Postkarten wurden große, detaillierte Motive ausgewählt und massiv verkleinert, das einzige eigentlich kleine Motiv wurde so vergrößert, dass nur der halbe Vogel auf die Karte passt.Wenn man einen Postkarten Kalender macht, warum wählt man dann nicht die vorhandenen, größenmäßig passenden Motive?

This postcard book is an excellent format for colourists to work with different perspectives. The smaller designs require us to scrutinize carefully. You need to think in different dimensions and plan an approach which will lead to success. The drawings are very detailed and require attention to these details when colouring. Other than having to change your mindset, this book is really worth the effort. Exercise your skills and work small!
