Great Book
"Bright Spots & Landmines: The Diabetes Guide I Wish Someone Had Handed Me" is a beacon of light in the often overwhelming journey of managing diabetes. This book, authored by Adam Brown, offers a refreshingly candid and practical perspective on living with diabetes, providing invaluable insights that empower readers to navigate their health with confidence and positivity. From the moment I delved into its pages, I was captivated by Adam Brown's authentic and relatable voice. As someone who has lived with type 1 diabetes himself, his personal experiences and empathetic approach resonate deeply, offering a sense of camaraderie and understanding that is rare to find in medical literature. The book is aptly titled, as it truly sheds light on the "bright spots" - the moments of triumph, success, and self-discovery that often get overshadowed by the challenges of diabetes management. Brown shares his own bright spots and encourages readers to seek and celebrate theirs, reminding us that every step forward is a victory. The inclusion of practical worksheets and trackers adds an interactive dimension to the book, allowing readers to actively engage with the content and track their progress.

Very good walk through of the practical steps to understand the real world impact on blood glucose of high carb refined foods in particular using the power of CGM. The meal photos were not appealing of the dishes the author eats daily to get that food control. B&W not color. Chia seed mash daily ? Dont think so! Looked unappealing and a wide range of options should have been teased out for breakfast to help people imagine the options with real food not refined junk like muffins, bagels, and fast food. Also, few people in mainstream could be as OCD and disciplined about daily food and physical activity as tbe author. But insightful for me and thanks. Read the whole book on a flight from US to New Zealand in one sitting. It was that good

Save not only your life, but the quality of it as well
My brother bought this for me when I was first diagnosed with type-2 diabetes. Less than a year later no longer taking shots and relying on Metformin alone. My bG averages 103 through low carb diet and minimal exercise. I follow none of the nutrition class series I attended which advised balancing carbs. That advice was like teaching an alcoholic to limit his alcohol instead of abstaining. My doc said I am one of 10 or so patients he has seen get their diabetes so well under control and I attribute that success solely to this book.A quick and easy read.A must have for anyone facing this deadly and debilitating disease. And oh - I feel the best I have in years. Had no idea how sick I had become. My chronic and overwhelming leg cramps are completely gone. Exhaustion is gone. Depression is gone. I wake each day with vitality and excitement for the day.Pizza Hut pizza without the crust is STILL Pizza Hut pizza. Ordering Chicken Marsala with grilled chicken and Italian veggies instead of fettuccine is still to die for. Knowing how bad bread, and rice, and potatoes are for you makes it so simple to pull them out. The difference in taste between your favorite burger with the bun vs without is so minuscule it makes pulling those carbs out of your diet easy once you understand how those carbs are killing you.If your doc can get you a continuous bG monitor you can experiment yourself and see, like the author, how your bG will go through the roof after eating a burger with the bun. Then eat it without and you'll see your level not even make a blip on your readings. You'll see for yourself how great the advice in this book is and you'll find making the changes in your diet so truly simple and even satisfying.Buy the book and good luck to you or your loved one! Life is about to change for the better

May be a good read for recently diagnosed young adults/teens...
I wouldn’t say don’t buy it because I believe the more info and perspective the better but I was underwhelmed. Maybe it’s that I’ve dealt with managing my own autoimmune issues thru diet, physical activity and the weight issues that arise from it thru low carb eating and portion control so long that I may have had an advantage over most when my daughter was diagnosed type1. Diabetes was the furthest thing I was expecting to hear from the ER because we are so health conscious in my home but I quickly learned Type1 is an autoimmune and nothing I did or didn’t do could’ve prevented it. I went home after a week in the hospital at my daughters bedside needing to learn about a condition that doesn’t get very much exposure fairly quickly. Unfortunately, I felt this book really didn’t tell me anything that wasn’t either common sense or learned very early on and I received/read this book only 2 weeks post diagnosis. Most of the info I had found online researching. I don’t think it’s completely useless just not the support and information Bible I thought it was going to be. I do think it would be great for a young adult or a recently diagnosed teen who is resistant, doesn’t come from the most health aware family, has unhealthy habits or is about to go off on their own and as a parent you want to make sure they have a simple, easy to read go to guide. Maybe even for an older person who was diagnosed years ago during the days drs pushed that useless food pyramid and there weren’t the resources that we have available today. I am planning on giving this to my 12 year old to read once I decide she’s ready to take on more of the responsibility so I can back off a little and not overwhelm her by coming off as overbearing or a helicopter mom. I do think she will like reading what seems like a younger persons perspective and experience. We’re only 3 months in and she’s hesitating and insecure about doing things alone after all she’s been thru but I do think she will benefit from the book soon.

Great, simple and practical guide
I was told I was prediabetic in Oct 2020 and have read several books and articles on the subject of managing blood glucose. This is a simple book which looks at how Adam manages his diabetes with consideration to the influence that our mindset has to helping us in living with diabetes. It affects every aspect of our lives but keeping to simple rules can keep us on the right track. A motivating and practical guide. I will keep referring to it.

Simple useful Tips for Insulin Users
Very practical tips and hacks that work for the author - a long time Type 1 Diabetic. There are caveats that they may not work the same for readers, but it serves as guidelines to look for. Example he postulates that Rapid acting Insulin is probably 1/3 available even after 2 hours, so needs to be accounted for when considering new dosing.. Again, the effect of simple walking/ cycling on reducing BG readings is given from research findings and his own personal experience. It is a great rough guideline to be aware of for people who exercise. Suggestions for food are US oriented, but some ideas are relevant for others as well.I have bookmarked so many pages, just so I can do a quick reference if need be..
