Q: I am a beginner wood carver and want to use these gloves. Would an additional thumb guard be recommended or do the gloves provide enough protection?

I’ve been carving for about 20 plus years. When I wear a glove, I only wear one on my non-dominate hand. The glove is only good to protect you from slices, doesn’t help with stab wounds but they are less common. I wrap my dominant (knife) hand thumb with the green self adhearing gauze. It’s also available thru Amazon and once your through carving it can slide off the thumb and be reused several times if you don’t wrap it too tight. I make a pad several layers thick for the face of the thumb as that’s the surface that usually gets the cut.

Q: Does this glove come in small or extra small? I can't seem to find it if it does. Thanks

The smallest size for 1670 is Medium. Medium would fit most small hands people.Thank you,

Q: Do these work against splinters with large pieces of wood and wood chips?

My experience is with metal, not wood. But they aren't designed to be puncture resistant. Just cut resistant. They are great gloves and they might reduce the risk of a splinter,but if you want full protection look for puncture resistant gloves.
