Will this use other Dewalt batteries?

Well... if you mean other 60v batteries? Yes. But if you mean other batteries like the 20v or 18v the noup. This tracksaw only works with 60v batteries and you can choose from some different ampere spec like 3, 6 or 9ah. The kit comes with the 6 ah and even when it doesn’t last for too much/long cuts, it is more than enough for breaking some ply sheets to make a few cabinets. Maybe the 9ah is a never ending battery but the 6ah seems to be enough. You can use the 60v batteries on Non-Flexvolt tools like a drill or jigsaw.

Will this saw cut a smooth edge on a rough unmilled wood??

It would cut all wood the same.

How are you supposed to accurately cut the beginning and end of 8' long material when the saw is only held to the track with a single support?

You have to remember that it's a plunge saw. It'll cut perfectly (meaning a clean cut) either by plunging or sliding the saw. What I do is I make the track stick out about 4 to 5 inches on the "start cut side" and then I place the saw on the material making sure that when I plunge, the blade starts cutting at the beginning of the material. This helps eliminate saw movement at the rear where the issue is since both guides are on the actual track. The end cut should not be affected if you leave the track sticking out the 4 to 5" at the beginning. This works for me, you might need the track to stick out more or less (depending on how steady your hand is) but the key is to plunge the saw and not try to slide the saw at the beginningof the cut.

Can this be used to cut aluminum sheets?

Just make shure to install a non ferrous blade (no bigger than 6 1/2 inches) and i wouldn’t use it in a very thik material.
