Alexander Hamilton: The Graphic History of an American Founding Father

A great telling of the tale of Alexander Hamilton with a more accurate and insightful take on his life than the uber popular musical. Fans of the musical looking for a bit more history and a little less embellishment without a history book feel will love this adaptation. The real story doesn't match musical fiction and while the life of someone like Hamilton can never entirely fit into a graphic novel, this one hits the right high points and captures the essence of the man along with great art.

I purchased this book after seeing it in a museum in Rhode Island. My son is fascinated with anything Alexander Hamilton related. He appeared to be very happy with the gift. The storyline, the artistry and the inking we're well done.

Amazing. Would see it again. I only wish I had known more of the story and songs- rather than now when the songs won’t leave my mind - what an amazing show to be entirely in song. I didn’t think that would be my thing,. My 11-year-old and 13-year-old loved it, this was my 11-year-old dream to see the show. I am thinking about going to see it in New York with her ! You can show up last minute and get seats for much cheaper we found out. But why risk it?!

My son in middle school is going a summer reading challenge for school. We picked out this book as it was of interest to him. A couple days later, the binding became unglued. Nothing we can’t fix but it upset him. So I’d give it 5 stars if it weren’t for that!

Great illustrations and design. Very well done.It's a lot more accessible for teens than a regular history textbook would be. It's not meant for a research paper, obviously, but its great at giving important background information.

Great illustrating. Story well told!

A creative and educational graphic novel, Alexander Hamilton: The Graphic History of An American Founding Father presents an interesting look at this enigmatic figure who helped shape the nation. The book follows the life of Alexander Hamilton from his days as a clerk in St. Croix to his joining of the American Revolution to his service as Secretary of Treasury. It also covers his private and public scandals, from his extramarital affair to his duel with Aaron Burr. However, it takes a while to get into as there’s some confusing time-jumping in the beginning. And at times author Jonathan Hennessey tries to cram in too much information and a biblical allegory that doesn’t really advance the plot. Also, the artwork by Justin Greenwood is pretty bland and some of the characters are indistinguishable from each other. Still, the panel layouts are rather creative and there’s some nice texture to the backgrounds. Alexander Hamilton: The Graphic History of An American Founding Father has some problems, but overall it’s an impressive biography.
