Midwest Hearth Lava Stones for Gas Fire Pit and Fireplace (Large (2" - 3"))

These are nice fist sized rocks. We added them to our gas fire pit and they are just what we needed them to be.

The XL stones add a nice touch to our fireplace.

Look great when unused but then some rocks stay really black like a piece of used charcoal. They are expensive, one #10 bag wasn't quite enough for one fireplace to cover the gas lines. I bought the 3-5” rocks. They look better than logs tho so will continue to buy!

I didn't want to spend the money for these lava rocks. You can get your typical red jagged lava rock pretty cheap, but I generally don't find this color, size, or shape locally. So I went ahead and spent the money, and happy I did. These rocks look fantastic in the fish tank, especially against a light sand substrate. Added bonus is that the pours promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. They do come out of the bag extremely dusty and look much lighter. I gave them a quick rinse in tap water and put them right in the tank.

I bought these 3-5” lava rocks to use in a birdbath and the birds love them!So do the chipmunks!You can buy cheaper rocks but I got these because I wanted to offer my critters a maximum amount of grip to insure that they don’t fall in and drown.These rocks are spectacular and definitely worth the money!!The water pump is solar powered with a battery backup and the bowl is a porcelain serving dish, all bought here on Amazon.

After trying river rock and road side granite I broke down and purchased these nicely uniform volcanic rocks. They fit well into my sauna stove, heat up fast and retain heat and moisture. No more popping apart and crumbling. Purchased 1 bag each of small and medium.

The media could not be loaded. We wanted a natural look for our modern style fireplace, and these stones fit the bill. They are the size we wanted and the color is nice too. We did a layer of black fire glass first then set these on the perimeter of the flames, as suggested by our local fireplace dealer (yeah, that’s a thing).

They look fantastic, but after 10 minutes of direct flame a rock exploded and a 1" chunk hit me in the chin about 10 feet away. Thankfully it wasn't my eye and nobody was hurt!Edit: After 40 additional minutes they seem stable and no more have exploded. Thermal camera reads the temp at 1,032 degrees. Just bake them a while before you actually decide to be anywhere near them.
