For fans of Cash and Graphic Novels
I'll have to admit I'm biased. I'm a Johnny Cash fan, as as soon as I saw the art for this graphic novel, I knew I'd love it. All it had to do was add new insights to a story I already had some acquaintance with. This book does that, and also does service to some of Cash's darker songs in a meaningful and creative way. And if that wasn't enough, it sent me to look up and "discover" some tracks I was unfamiliar with. I'm glad I did. This belongs in the collections of graphic novel and Cash fans alike.

Moe Joe Trading is excellent seller.
Packing was excellent. That can make or break a book purchased as a gift. I was so impressed and pleased.

Save me from this darkness.
This graphic novel is a biography of Johnny Cash. It doesn't go into all the major events in Cash's life, but instead dramatizes a few big moments in detail. The Folsom Prison concert in particular gets several pages. The artwork is great and the story is riveting, even if you already know a lot about Johnny Cash. This is a great book that I highly recommend.

I love the asides where it's a new scene that turns out to be a dramatization of one of his songs. Get this.

Unusual Christmas gift!
My mom asked me to order this for my Dad for Christmas. I figured it was a biography of Johnny Cash, but imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a graphic biography! I have not read the book myself, but in looking through it, the artwork looks terrific. I would like to borrow it from Dad once he's finished it. It looks really interesting!

Worthy of Cash
Cool book, great illustrations. But nothing from mid-1968 to the mid-1990s is covered. Still, it should please Cash fans and art students.

It's Worth the Cash !
Was done well, but would have been better if it had been in color. Easy to follow story line and is a must have for any die hard collector. Will keep you awake.

Un excellent roman illustré
En VO et des dessins excellent que demander de plus. Un bel ouvrage proposé parfois à des prix dérisoir celui ci est plus que correcte et l'histoire est fidèle à la légende. Je le recommande pour les fans.

The Man In Black, Warts and All (But with a touch of soft focus?)
For anyone interested in 20th Century American popular music (specifically country music), this book is sure to please. I'm not especially interested in country music and really have known Johnny Cash just as the "Man in Black" image that probably overshadowed his true and more profound talents, but I thoroughly enjoyed "I See A Darkness" and do recommend it. In my view, at some points the text seems to strive a bit too hard to trumpet Cash's positive traits (individualism, refusal to compromise his principles, concern and compassion for the downtrodden) without demonstrating precisely why and how he acted upon his best instincts. In that same vein, there's a touch of "let's just set the record straight" in regard to the reputation of some other musicians of the same generation (such as Carl Perkins). On the other hand, the story deals directly with Cash's substance abuse problems, his failure as a husband and father in his first marriage, and his inability to channel his anger properly as a younger man. Some of the time shifts in the narrative can be slightly confusing at first, but in the end, this is a good story well told, and I do recommend this graphic bio for those who want to know more about Johnny Cash than the fact that he often dressed in black.
