Very pleased!!!
I have been eager to try Gansai Tambi paints for some time and this travel set was perfect to do so. I absolutely love the case! It’s slightly textured for a good hold. The whole set is fairly lightweight. I LOVE how the pans slide and click into place in the case! Just genius! It certainly keeps the pans in place. I will say the paint rack will slide a bit but much better than individual sliding pans. Don’t have to worry about the pans falling out of the case. The water brush is nice. The pen is excellent and like how it has a bit of of sparkle. The paints themselves are quite nice. I enjoy the creaminess of them and how easy they are to work with. I look forward to having a larger collection of the Gansai Tambi paints and am interested in trying the travel watercolor set as well. I highly recommend this set to others. Good bang for the buck and you won’t regret the purchase!

Excellent palette but pans not filled all the way
I knew from other reviews that the pans were not filled to the top but I took a chance since there were a few reviewers that liked the palette box.Pros:- the palette box fits the water brush and a pen so you really only have to carry it & your sketchbook when urban sketching or painting on the go-I can fit a Lamy Safari fountain pen along with the water brush-the paint pans have grooved bottoms so they stay locked in to the removable tray and don't wiggle-there is a nice variety of colours included-the paints are interesting to use - it is my first Kuretake set and they are more opaque than W&N-I can fit 16 Winsor & Newton half pans when I remove the tray (I have to secure them with sticky tac).-it is compact and sturdyCons:- the paint pans are not full- I can't find replacement pans or paint tubes- the paint stains the plastic- the palette is off white so the colour looks different in the mixing tray than it does on white paper- expensive- does not have a thumb ring on the bottomOverall I like this palette better than some of my others because my brush and pen fit inside and I always have a little kit ready to go.It is expensive though, so if you use more than a pen & brush and will be carrying a pencil case anyway then it really wouldn't be worth the money when you can buy the Winsor and Newton Cotman Field Box on sale for $29.

Excited to use these on my next trip!
I bought this pan because I love the color manufacturer, and it was the perfect size for traveling. I tested it this weekend to see how easy it would be to use on the road.I do think you'd have to set it on something flat to paint, but it was very easy to use. It's very lightweight, and the colors were gorgeous. I really like that it comes with a rose/pink, and grey. It saves time on mixing that when you're on a time crunch. Also, all the panels where you can mix paint were great! First time trying to paint like that and it was so nice!My only note is that the water pen is small and doesn't hold a lot of water. I found I had to use a second water pen to finish the picture I was working on. You might want to take a water bottle just to refill water later.Overall, really excited to use the heck out of it!

My favorite plastic travel palette!
I own several plastic and metal watercolor boxes and this one is my absolute favorite. Not only is it one of the most compact, I also feel like there is almost no space wasted in this set. It has 9 generously sized wells for mixing colors, as well as a space to fit 2 pens or water brushes, or a combination of whatever pen-shaped art supply you choose. It comes with 14 small pans of gansai tambi paints, which are very different from western watercolors. They are creamy and easy to activate, and most of them are opaque or semi-opaque. They mix well together, and because of the split primary color selection it's easy to mix any color you want that isn't already included in the set. There are also lots of convenience colors included, including a black and a white. Many people dislike these colors, especially in a set with limited colors, but since there are 14 colors included in this set it's easier to look past. The set comes with a water brush and a teeny tiny 01 Mangaka fineliner. Basically, all you need is some water, paper, and washcloth and you're all set! I don't love water brushes but the Kuretake ones are probably my favorite of the ones I've tried. The water flow is pretty even and they come to a nice point. I included a photo of a sketch I made using only the supplies included in this sketch, on Canson XL watercolor paper. So, all in all I am thrilled with this purchase. I tend to impulse buy lots of different art supplies so I'm very familiar with buyer's remorse, but I had absolutely no regrets with this set. If you're thinking about buying it, I say you should go for it.

Nice creamy paint, tho they don’t give much.
I like the paints. The pans were not full, but that’s how Gansai pours their paints. The palette is great, small enough for travel and with a lot of mixing area. It’s great that it also holds a waterbrush and pen. I’m not sure the paints are artist grade. There is no pigment info provided. I need to play with them more to see what they can do, but so far its good.
