Q: Are these pencils oil based

The core of coloured pencils are a blend of wax and oil, pigments and other agents which help stability and lay down. What determines if the pencil is a so called oil pencil (as opposed to a traditional wax pencil) is the proportion of oils in the wax mixture.

Q: Don’t want to seem silly but is there any difference between the red tin and silver tin? As I’ve seen both online whilst searching for them.

The silver and red are exactly the same products. The silver box was discontinued at the end of 2019 so any silvers you buy are pretty old.

Q: thinking of buying is this set worth it

I love these so much I bought the 40 tin (having previously bought the 20). My nephews now colour with the 20s and love them and I use the 40s. They are superb with a great range of colours. If I could afford 120, I would buy those too!

Q: do they have a cedar wood aroma to them?

No. Caran D'ache Luminance pencils do, but Pablo don't.
