Wonderful way for my children to learn Spanish / French without even trying to 'learn' !
I bought the Spanish Kloo board game (Race to Madrid) after feeling a little disillusioned with a recent educational DVD that my kids just weren't interested in! ( As a languages graduate, it has always been my aim to get my own children ahead with their French and Spanish). I found Kloo purely by accident while searching online for language resources, and decided to give it a go based on its very positive reviews, and am so glad I did - I am genuinely delighted with it so far! Apart from being a very enjoyable game in its own right, after a very short time my children have learnt almost all the words in deck 1 which relate to food and drink, ordering in a restaurant etc. They can build sentences using all the relevant parts of speech and they and have an increased awareness of masculine/feminine nouns, placement of adjectives, verb conjugations (1st person singular and plural only in deck 1 - which is perfect) not to mention a varied and useful vocabulary that is relevant and fun for children. I have also brushed up on my own, slightly rusty, Spanish and my children love trying to catch me out! We don't play the whole game every night but rather just leave the game out and continue where we left off, meaning that there are no battles over going up to bed as they can't wait to play each night. My son, who has additional support at school with his English, finds this game motivating and enjoyable - the results are better than I'd even hoped initially. His pronunciation needs a bit of work but with the phonetic spelling on each card, even this aspect has been thought of and addressed in a way that allows children to sound authentic.I have now also bought the first two French card decks, however, I just want to focus on the Spanish for another week before we swap. I am pleased to see that the French deck 1 corresponds quite closely to the Spanish, which means we already have plenty of clues and a good head start.Overall this is a fantastic game and I wish teachers would use it instead of simply teaching a string of sentences without any explanation of how they are built up. I'm certain that by using this as a teaching resource chidren would learn much more effectively and be more inspired.Just need more hours in the day to play it.My favourite purchase in a long time.

Surprising how quickly it was picked up by a non French speaker
An instant hit with my family, all in our 20s. One of us learned French at school, one has been trying to learn it on and off through language tapes, and one of us has no French experience at all and previously no interest in learning French! All 3 of us really enjoyed the game and picked up both the rules and the vocabulary very quickly. We played it collaboratively more than competitively and it was fun to speculate on possible word meanings based on other languages (e.g. Spanish) and to note when our theories were right and wrong. By the end of the day, we had all virtually learned the whole deck, but felt it would have replay value because we'd slowly forget the words over time unless we practised. It's definitely aimed at the beginner as the grammar is only basic, but it's the best way I've seen to get started really quickly and most importantly, build enthusiasm.

A must for all those French beginners!
I bought this game for my daughter who has just started secondary school (and French!). As my husband or I could not help her with her French I looked for a game to help us out and found Kloo....it took a few games to get in to it, but once we'd found out exactly what we were doing it was good fun (and became quite competitive!).My daughter's french has come on leaps and bounds, as has ours. She no longer worries about going to her French lesson as she has picked up very quickly how sentences go together...we were so impressed by the game we also bought the Spanish version.I would highly recommend this game, especially to all beginners.Tracy Smith

Missing lots of words to make it a suitable game. Only nouns, two relative pronouns (qui and que) and a few 'et'. You cannot build interesting sentences, only basic ones, so after 5 minutes, it becomes pointless, repetitive and unless you want to use the game for nouns flashcards, the whole point of the game is lost. There is no challenge as players can always build a sentence with their cards so it's not even fun. Such a shame as it was a great idea to start with. Instructions are not very clear either. But cards are good quality and with bright colours.

Educational without being boring
Great product I bought it on the reviews looking for something different for my son's birthday - we mixed the deck up to create even more sentences not sure if that made it more complicated but we worked it out. It was great to see how much confidence it gave the adults and the kids (12 and 9) the pronunciation tips and translations meant we picked up words that we hadn't seen before in the course of a 30 minute game. Liked it so much I bought the Spanish decks for my daughter's birthday.
