Cheaper than a new key fob!
After buying our 2nd new key fob in 3 years, we thought we would try replacing the battery ourselves. It wasn't difficult and just required a little bit of soldering, our old key fob works perfectly.

Replacement rechargeable battery for MINI key
The battery is installed and fully working. As notes for those about to do the same:1 - You may very well destroy the plastic fob getting it apart as it takes some time and effort to split the two halves apart using a Stanley knife. Budget on a new fob too.2 - This battery was very slightly bigger than the one in my fob, not much but enough to make it difficult to bend and line up inside so that the PCB fits back.3 - Be careful when removing the old battery from the PCB with your soldering iron, and more careful when soldering the new one back in. It is quite small and difficult to hold in place.Other than that, I have replaced both batteries in two keys and bought one new fob, all for less than £40, cheaper than the £380 BMW MINI would have charged me for two new keys!

The name is exactly as the one from my old battery and in the picture it looks the same, but in reality is not fitting right on my car key
