highly reccomend - read review for more
This heavy duty electric sharpener is actually pretty damn good. In addition to being therapeutical when you're using it, the sharpening is not bad at all. The grip surprisingly can withstand the rotation of the sharpening as you have to hold the pencil to stop it spinning.I would recommend it in a way if you have dozens of pencils to sharpen in a short amount of time. I am a maths teacher and pencils are normally sharp until the kids lay their reckless hands on them. (I teach at a school where kids don't bring their own equipment you see)If I had to be super critical about it then read the negative points below (imo):1) the USB has to be powered from the plug for max torque and power. I'd thought I could use it from my mac and you can, but the power is significantly lower due to laptop power outputs.2) short pencils can be a major issue meaning if your pencil is 2 inches long then you can't sharpen it since you got nothing to hold on. The pencil goes quite abit into the sharpener. Short pencils (I mean super short btw) is a no go.3) when you open the container to empty the pencil bits make sure you do it at a bin. It opens from the bottom and sometimes it could go everywhere so be advised on this one. Not a major problem tbh but I didn't expect it at the start.4) it does require human strength to hold the pencil so it doesn't rotate as the sharpener can rotate the pencil meaning not much sharpening is gonna happen if you put it in and let it do its magic on its own.5) lastly, just a general concern and it hasn't happened to me yet. If a lead was to be stuck, the access to get it out would deem difficult? Also, not sure how reliable the sharpener thing is because it doesn't seem like a replaceable one from the outside. But I'll shall update this review if I ever get to that stage which doesn't seem like I will at the moment.Definitely a good buy though.

I would definitely recommend but my students are not allowed anywhere near it
What a fab product! I need it to be "heavy-duty" as we get through so many pencils in my classroom. I've tried other battery and hand operated sharpeners before and they always break, get clogged up and simply stop sharpening. This electric sharpener however, sharpens in seconds and you don't need to apply that much pressure. I would definitely recommend but my students are not allowed anywhere near it!!!!

Wish they made one with a larger hole.
I'm using for artists pencils, faber castell polychromos and derwent inc pastel pencils, all sharpen perfectly. I've always had to sharpen my pastel pencils with a blade as various sharpeners I've bought damage them but this copes well. Only ones I can't sharpen are my albrecht durer, they are hexagonal and just slightly too big for it. It produces an excellent long point, very sharp. Practise on cheap pencils first, it can eat them quickly, you soon get the knack of how much it needs. Unlike some reviewers who say they have reduced power using usb, I have no issues using usb from my desktop. Wish they made one with a larger hole.

Excellent once I'd worked it out
The first couple of times I used it, the results were excellent. Then I found I wasn’t getting anything like the sharpened point expected. Only after reading someone else’s review did I realise that I must have been pressing the pencil in too hard. And only from that review did I learn that I could turn the cutting blades by hand to clear the broken lead, having removed the clear Perspex front and disconnected the sharpener from the power supply. Turning the blades wasn’t easy but can be done, and the broken lead came out.Thereafter I have been a bit more gentle in inserting the pencil and results have been outstanding. A beautifully sharpened point every time. I am an artist and use very soft (9B) and carbon pencils a lot; they wear down very quickly and I was spending much time and energy in sharpening with aknife because most pencil sharpeners break the point off very easily. This electric pencil sharpener is outstanding once I’d worked out how to use it properly. There should be more documentation to clearly explain how to use it – I wasn’t sure for example whether the pencil was meant to rotate in use or not. Not, of course, but you need to hold the pencil in position and keep the sharpener against the worktop.

Disappointing performance of eagerly awaited item.
Order delivered 2 days before forecasted date. Goods/Packaging in good order. Was looking forward to using this new tool. The first ca.20 pencils sharpened in line with expectations, so emptied the waste container and started again with identical pencil product. The next few were also ok but then came one failure after another until I stopped damaging my pencils. As product was expensive for such an item and heavy duty I was looking forward to using same for many years. I have lost confidence that it is the long term solution for me. Was surprised that the supplier mailed me prior to receiving the goods offering me a 20% price reduction in the purchase price and free replacement if the product did not perform as expected. The one star is simply for prompt order execution and delivery before time. Shame about the product performance I encountered, but maybe others will be more fortunate.

Great even for big jobs
I bought one of these a year ago for myself. I use it frequently to sharpen mine and kids pencils and colouring pens, as well as take school pencils and colouring pencils home to get them sharp for the children (another one of those things that parents do to save teachers/ assistants time!). It has coped well with it all. It will only do the standard size (not the larger ones or the three sided ones), but that also means that children cant stick their finger in!This year I purchased one for the classroom as a leaving gift at the end of the year and it has been very well received. Now that I won't be helping in the class anymore, at least sharpening the pencils will be a breeze!
