The Art of Horizon Zero Dawn

This is a gorgeous book, full of evocative art. From page 1 I was entranced; it's like the scenes want to rise off the page and become real! I haven't even played the game - this book on it's own is worth the money. I really hope a book 2 is released! Further detail follows:PRINT QUALITYIs good, in my opinion. The cover is art in itself; the main coloured details are raised in a slight relief so you can glide a hand over and *feel* as well as see. Pages are thick and satin-coat that feel sturdy and give a nice 'thwow' as you turn them; no issues with glare from light when reading, but also nothing appears 'flat'.PRODUCTION QUALITYThere is just the right blend of text and graphic in the book; there are notes from a variety of artistic persons who worked on the Horizon project, each written in their own voice and explaining what they were thinking or why as they worked on a part of the project - this all provides really interesting insight into the artistic process and I must say I really respect the amount of research and thinking they did before even setting brush to paper.IMAGE AND ART QUALITYI think is very good. The printing by no means takes anything away from the art itself - I haven't yet noticed anything that'd make me think 'hm, if they've messed up that piece by printing it wrong'.Art includes immense but detailed cityscapes, vivid natural environments, character studies and freeform sketches to capture the movement or emotion of a particular character or creature. The most startling thing for me is how real or plausible many of the 'real intended' drawings are. I don't find myself thinking 'Hmm, that's a work of fantasy'. The cityscapes, though impressive, are testament to this. The sketches designed to just capture a movement, an expression or feeling likewise do this excellently. Occassionally a brush is used (i.e. to create trees), but this in itself is fascinating because you can see the process of what the artist focused their energy on vs. did quickly.I can't say I am any authority on art books but I do like my art and really think this book is stunning. I hope they can do a book 2.

Art is very cool

I LOVED this like Oml I was so happy when it arrived. I’ve re-read it so many times!The art in the book and the explanations of the different tribes/machines etc were amazing and made me understand more of the game on a character basis.However there wasn’t much about how they came up with the concept? I mean I guess it’s pretty easy to figure out, but I was hoping to see more of the trial and errors of not only the character designs but the environment and story line too; there isn’t much about that other than the metal world - which most was explained in the game.But otherwise it’s very good and I can’t wait for forbidden west’s to come out :)

This is a beautiful art book, with some great depth into the creation of the game, I enjoy seeing a process of how ideas become reality, great for lovers of the game, it's got amazing art

I'm happy with my purchase but a bit disappointed as I expected way more pages about the designs on the machines which are the heart of the game

As an art fan not a game fan ( I have no idea about the game) it is utterly beautiful in both character design and environments. A real treasure for reference in both.

What can I say it arrived much quicker than it said it would which was a huge bonus and well packaged so all in all great quality and beautiful artwork throughout this book is great for those Horizon fans as the game itself was beautiful and lush, I love it!
