This pack give you new mechanics with new maps, but there are not a lot of them.

Yes it is hard to figure everything out. You tube videos were so helpful in the beginning. The Sea animal exspansion really adds to the whole game.

I approve of more variety for a game like Ark Nova, but if these two new maps were going to be stronger than the default maps (they are), then four new maps should have been provided for balance. Instead, only two are provided. Both are clever and thoughtful, but both are slightly more powerful than the default maps. As a result, they are mostly useful either for balancing the game out for stronger players (with default maps) versus weaker players (these maps) or for 2P Ark Nova games.And like most "promo" style products, the value for money just isn't there. So, it's basically a product for completionists or Ark Nova nerds like myself. ;-)

Although the images show two maps, I thought I was getting four, since all other Ark Nova maps are double-sided. These are double-sided too, but identical. So you only get two new maps, printed on very thin cardboard. They would be OK for half the price, but at this price, I felt they were expensive.

I love Ark Nova, and my friends were really excited to play with the new two maps when I brought them out. I think they might be a little overpowered potentially compared to the base maps, but I wouldn’t say they’re more powerful than the best map in the base game (Map 3). Easy to fit in the original box, and worth having if your a big fan like me.
